Maori "Fung Fu"
« on: 22 September 2016, 11:16:18 PM »
Just wanted to make those who maybe interested in Maori warfare, of a movie I just finished watching.  Not a bad movie if you don't mind subtitles.

It deals with pre-contact Maori tribal warfare....lot's of violence and face making posturing!  It sometimes plays like a kung fu movie during the combat scenes.

Looks good visually but it only made a bit over $5,000 US so does cause wonder as to the value of the story - though it might have had other challenges like political issues.  Don't know.  Will watch for it on Redox though that is highly unlikely with such low box office, maybe went direct to dvd.

Not sure that the Boxoffice from two screens in the USA is a great point of reference as to the story quality. In NZ it opened better that Fury. Not a bad action film with mythical overtones. A Maori friend showed it to me as he was pleased to see traditional Maori weapons are Martial arts on display. The Warrior is portrayed by Lawrence Makoare who was Lurtz in Lord of the Rings.

Agreed with Fantail. I've actually been keen on seeing this film but couldn't remember it's name. I know what I'll be looking for tonight.

Been meaning to see that one myself
