Old West scatter...redux.

After rebasing all of my miniatures I decided I'd rebase all of my scatter terrain with a more neutral basing colour scheme.  I also sold off all of my old assembled fence enclosures and will be redoing all of them (probably a new water tower etc.).  A lot of work, but probably worth it in the end.  Here are repainted 4Ground sheds etc., my rebased scatter terrain, and rebased Perry horses (for use when riders leave them - by choice or otherwise).

Most are Ainsty Castings, and some are from...JR Miniatures (http://www.jrmini.com/shop/jrmini.php?m=product_list).  A few are handmade (the stacks of wood beams, etc.)

I'm a big fan of most all of your work I've seen.  Like the scatter terrain, the horses look fine on their bases.  But please tell me all those gray buildings and wagons are meant to be derelict elements.  'Cuz if those wagons are meant to be serviceable, no self-respecting denizen of the old west would allow their wagons to get into such bad condition.  A wagon was an expensive piece of equipment and would have been kept in the best repair possible by the owner.

Derelict, yes?  Please say so.  

FYI, a wagon with team could be as much as $600 - $800 (and yes, it could be less) but with wages of less than $1 per day for the average working stiff, I think you get the picture.  Cost of wagon, cost of the harness (the tack), cost of horses, cost of feeding and/or boarding the horses, etc., all added up.  That's why criminals so often stole a wagon when they needed one, darn sure few of them had the means to pay legitimate for one.

Fifttens makes a good point. One of the businesses that would pop up quickly in boom towns was a large Dry Storage or Cartage building. As folks got in and worked to rebuild their cash or looked for a place to mine/ranch/homestead large goods and wagons would be stored in doors. Because of the space wagons took up they often would be stacked on end, poles and trees removed.

Having someone return and want the wagon in the middle meant a couple of fellows man handling the others out of the way something noted frequently in the accounts of the men who worked in such places.

They're just pieces of scatter terrain.  They're painted old and grey because they're also used as scatter terrain for my Mordheim game now.

This must have needed unusually large doors. Normally all one can expect to store in a door is a few letters, and even they need an attached box.
