Scatter Terrain for Old West towns
« on: June 28, 2016, 07:08:30 PM »
Good Evening,

As some of you will have seen, my town Redemption is very much in its infancy. I believe the small things matter, and I am now on the search for scatter terrain to bring the town to life. Cactic, Vultures and Coffins welcome!
Here are a list of the resources I have come across so far, which I hope may be of use to others. Ultimately, it would be great if folk could share their own 'best bits' here. Perhaps you make your own? Would love to hear from ya!

If you can find some stuff from Ainsty Castings they're quite good.  I like to base my scatter stuff on bases in large piles which are a bit easier to place/recover, but still look quite good.  There is a Polish resin company who does some lovely stuff I'd like to try out as well.

Good call Elbows, some nice cemetary plots there.

Feel sure I came across these guys at Salute! earlier this year.

Jim.

There trade goods are superb.  I'm trying to find a picture I took when I posted some of them to my thread...must have vanished.

Here's a pic with a bunch of the Ainsty stuff stuck to some Renedra bases.

They're spot on, exactly the type of thing I had in mind. Are they based with sand?
Smart looking adobe buildings too.

My early Old West stuff is based with fine ballast (the kind you get from Woodland Scenics or other train hobby producers).  I have maybe 11-13 bases of various size with piles stacked to represent stuff.  I originally had a lot of the items separate but a big bag with 40+ barrels and boxes became time prohibitive.

Maybe I'll snag a picture - I have an entire tub which is dedicated to detritus and random bits..the "scatter terrain" tub.  It's a huge part of all of my town builds.

You can see I have a lot of boxes/bags/barrels...fences, posts, lights, tents, etc.  Really makes the table (not to mention this is the stuff most characters end up hiding behind).

Love it! What are the cards and figures round the edge?

Perhaps an obvious tip, but I personally like to see scatter items placed appropriately to their surroundings as I think it makes them less obtrusive and more believeable.  So for my Chinese labour camp I use a mix of ridge tents, tree stumps and boxes, for the side of the hotel/saloon I use barrels and crates, and for the new-build constructions (as per photo), I use piles of lumber, etc.  As I say, it may be obvious stuff, but it certainly helps to build mini vignettes all across your town this way.  Good luck!  Oh, and most of my stuff has been picked up at shows and I cannot recall the manufacturer, but EBay, or other sites like it, are great for gathering such items.  All the best!  ;)

Apologies for the picture on its side... I do not know what happened or how to fix it!  :(
