Alternate unit activation in 40K 8th edition
« on: 14 July 2017, 04:25:58 PM »
As already written here, I see some similarities between the current edition of 40K and Victory Decision.

I then read the discussion here to incorporate alternate unit activation in 40K:

So why not try the ViDe Future Combat system in 40K. It would work like this:

Initiative Segment: Both players nominate a unit they wish to activate. To avoid any unnecessary arguments the players should agree before the game who starts with nominating a unit. We suggest that whoever rolls highest nominates a unit first during odd turns. One player gets all even turns, while the other gets all odd turns.
Both players then roll a 1D6 for their nominated unit and add the highest Leadership Characteristic of that unit to the score. The score is affected by the following cumulative modifiers:

Initiative Segment Modifiers (cumulative)
HQ Unit                     +2
Elite or Vehicle Unit     +1
Unit is kept in Reserve  -1

Whoever scores highest wins the Initiative and activates the chosen unit. Any ties (after all modifiers) are simply re-rolled until one player scores higher.
The unit then resolves the usual phases.

BUT – Beware that you have to tweak the whole thing here and there. I am still unsure if it is best to only allow Fights when the unit activates, same goes for the Morale phase.
One time Morale per round after all units of both sides have activated?

AND - In my games so far I did not really missed the alternate activation, maybe 40K has to be UGO- IGO...
;)

cheers and keep on gaming, Agis - https://www.adpublishing.de
