« on: 23 May 2024, 07:12:22 AM »
Hi Guys
I was wondering about your thoughts on who does the Best Gauls in 28mm
In addition my decision is Probably be weighted towards Figures that present as a group that are not all waiving their weapons around in a Group Epileptic Fit .
Cheers

I've recent got the V and V  figures.  Titled  "Celts"  Just 8 figures in total and expensive v  Victrix etc  but very finely made.   Also got Gauls by Victrix, Wargames Factory,  Warlord Games and  Irish by Wargames Atlantic and some Aventine metal Gauls.   The only duds are the Wargames Factory - luckily out of production now.

I found Victrix quite good - the armoured kit are more composed in respect to their unarmoured kinsmen.

Warlord games do some great Gauls! The poses are very dynamic, which is nice, but can make them a little hard to rank up. Apart from that I can’t think of any real problems with them though, and even that one isn’t that big of a deal.
Victrix do some great ones as well, but they’re a little pricier, and you’ll want different kits for the armoured, regular and naked fanatics.
Wargmes factory do some nice looking Gauls to but I haven’t bought them so I can’t vouch for them.

I always liked the Essex ones.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

Victrix for me.
The chariots are awesome.

They can be dynamic and quite big though.
I multi base a lot of mine, so I can fit them onto the required size.

Aventine do some nice Galatians. Foundry have some nice Gauls done by Mark Copplestone. Victrix have a good selection.
Crusader celts rank up well and can be mixed with Victrix. If you want archers then the Gallic archers from the SPQR line of Warlord Games are pretty good figures.

For slightly smaller figures the Continental Celts and Ancient British by Foundry match well with Relic's Gauls.

A&A miniatures have some very reasonably priced metsl 28mm gauls, as do crusader minis.

Victrix is my go to. The Germans they make work too, I used them for Ligurians with a shield swap.

The warlords plastics were good for their time, but show their age and yes everyone is kinda posing.

Gripping Beast has some decent metals, but limited selection.

I really like the Victrix range, I have painted over 400 of them, there is lots of poses and you can add heads and arms from the other Victrix ranges to mix it up more. I have mixed in Crusader, A&A and some V&V with them

I selected the western Aulerci federation to paint for mine.

I also have owned the warlord plastics, they need more work to straighten them up and arm chopping to stop the open arm business. They do mix well with foundry, old glory warlord metals. I am using warlord again for my Germanics, mostly because I picked up the army box.

Cheers
