There was a story a long time back either in E.C. Comics or in the Warren Magazines about the "Ghost Ace" that was shooting down planes on both sides.  It turned out that who ever knocked out the "Ghost Ace" in a duel in turn became the undead pilot.
 Perhaps this is the Undead Pilot that you seek.  Perhaps what is needed are silver bullets to kill t he Ghost Ace for good.
