My figures are based around a nominal 20x20 base, so 8 on a 60x50 base is not going to work.  Plus my opponent has his figures based on 40x40 bases so I think we may have to go 80x40 just to accommodate the basing.
Basing the bane of all gamers - unless you use grids in which case basing ceases to be an issue.

As long as they're based more or less the same size then that's all good. I wouldn't scoff at playing anyone with a different base size anyway.

All my Swordpoint stuff had a depth of 60mm per bases, which means I'm going to get hit in the flanks a lot but hopefully the guys at the events (when I can attend!) will give me some leeway. :) If not then no skin off its my nose :)

Warlord Pike and Shotte work well with a few tweaks, look at Olicanlad's blog he has covered it very well

I'm sticking to Furioso for the time being. Or, at the very least, until I can actually get a game in  lol

A few of the guys at the club played an Italian Wars campaign with several large games involved and were unimpressed. The general feeling was that it just didn't have the right feel for the Wars in Italy.

I'm still waiting for the postie to bring me the Furiso rulebook,

I saw that there is another contender emerging from the shadows

https://www.lgtpresents.co.uk/product-page/the-reg-launch-event-15mm

Looks like a renaissance version of Mortum et Glorium which I have not read nor played.

Mine popped through my letter box quite quickly George- maybe drop them a reminder email?

Me neither. I cannot comment of the Renaissance version but everything I have heard about Mortem et Glorium from friends as been very good except for one thing, the basing; it is very element based in a similar style to DB[insert version] which has really put me off. From what I've seen on his YouTube videos, I think Simon Hall has done a brilliant job of removing the rules structure (after a few games) and allowed players to just get on and play the game. It seems to be quite a brilliant system but it does not appeal to my own personal large unit ethos. I'm sure there could be a way to work around this, play on a much larger table with larger units etc. I think that this is the plan of Ken Reilly from the Yarkshire Gamer blog and podcast, though I would have to go back and check to be sure.

Stephen Danes' Bad War. Purchased years ago, but never got round to play it, as I still prefer WAB 1.5, and I don't think it made an impression among gamers - maybe lack of advertising and/or players? The rules aren't that bad and easy enough to modify.

Basing was the obvious reason why I purchased it: same base sizes as WAB and not catering to geriatric WRG/DBx players who never accounted for scale creep! lol Army lists are included near the end, but require tweaking, especially for Italians, as Band Nere is listed as arquebusiers. ::) Anyone who's familiar with WAB could easily transition into Bad War.

It's only a $14 PDF, though I recall paying more at the time, and since it was on sale, also got the supplements Tudor Warfare and The French Wars of Religion.

What I have attempted with Bad War is to bring out the qualities of some of these more exotic troops, the Doppelsöldner, the Aventuriers, the Black Bands, the Gendarmes, the Landsknechts, the Stradiots and the Condottieri.
Rather than a simple factor rating their quality, these troops have different characteristics that shape and modify their actions. Gendarmes are likely to disobey orders and attack their nearest opponents, the Swiss will seek out any Landsknechts and visit bloody slaughter on their foe and any Stradiots can certainly be relied upon to loot the baggage train - either their opponents or their own!

Bad War can be played with either 25/28mm or 15mm figures and a wide variety of popular basing is allowed.
The rules have many similar features to the other AB One games including the entertaining "War-Tokens system".

Also provided is a Fornovo scenario which includes a map, order of battle and unit cards that can be printed out for use during the game and army lists for the Early Italian Wars.
Although Bad War focuses initially on the Italian Wars, the rules can be used for any European warfare of the sixteenth century. Later supplements will cover the French Wars of Religion, the Spanish and Dutch war and the wars of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I.

James has also had a lot of games using a tweaked version of Piquet, which seems to work very well. I am a big fan of Piquet but haven’t played it for this period...

I ordered Furioso on 20 may, it has yet arrive. the website shows that the order was fulfiled on 21 may.
the lack of contact details on the alternative armies website is concerning.

has anyone got a contact number for this outfit?

Furioso has arrived . i am skimming through it while pretending to work

The random events are an interesting touch- Plague seems to evoke the mood of the early Italian wars where the combtants were waylaid by "ill mal galicco"
