Evil Dave's Steel Rift - messing with colors
« on: January 03, 2024, 05:05:19 PM »
I'm starting something new for 2024 and our groups first quarter painting challenge: Steel Rift. I'm not sold on the rules but the figures are great and completely customizable. I magnetized all the arms and the weapon ports in the Freelance starter this week, now to slog through another 90 of the weapons.

I'm not sure on a color scheme yet. At think point I'm thinking mostly black, with a redish-pink head and left arm/shoulder.

Dave,

Care to elaborate?
What ya like?
What ya don't like?

Good looking Mecha.

How tall are they?

Louie, those are 1"/25mm bases they're on. They're 1.25"/32mm to 1.5"/40mm tall. Depending on how you like things to scale they'd work with 6mm to 10mm figures.

Grimmnar, there's just not a lot there and everything just seems to be tied to the size of the mech.

The weapons are what they are, you can't change their range or abilities. The size of the mech you strap them to determines their damage. The size of your target determines how easy it is hit. There's no saving really, just generate a pool or dice for an attack and the defender rolls that number of dice looking for a number to avoid damage.

You can adjust two values on a mech, armor and super-structure. Bumping either up from the standard for the size of mech you're using. That's about it though, your move is your move.

There's no real decision points beyond every other game has: where should I move and who should I shoot.

I've been plodding through the black on the Steel Rift stuff and I also finished the cockpits as I try to stumble into a color scheme. I hope to finish the maroon next week.

Looks magenta to me, but I really like the scheme! Great brushwork so far :)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...
