Evil Dave's 40k - just dabbling
« on: January 15, 2023, 04:19:12 AM »
A couple of friends in my gaming group have been talking about playing second edition 40k. I'm not sure what army I'd want to start with at this point, but I wanted to show what a supportive friend I can be. To that end (and because they want to do Dark Angels and Blood Angels) I painted up some marines that are categorically not those chapters.  ;)

Below are Brother Sassus and Brother Sassus (no relation) of the Angels of Redemption and Angels Sanguine. Still deciding on the basing for them, and I want to make some custom decals as well (hence the strange pauldron colors).

Those turned out great. The colours work well together.

I didn’t read the title well enough - and thought it was a photo of an epic scale marine at first   :o

Then I paid a bit more attention - great paint schemes.

Lovely paintjobs!  8)

These are some relatively obscure chapters, but to be honest, their colours are way more interesting than their parent chapters/legions. And you've done them all kinds of justice!

2nd ed; the version of the game I never played, yet still am nostalgic about... ::)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Really, really nice work!  :-*

If any of your friends are doing Orks for the period, maybe look into seeing if you can find a copy of the Angels of Vengeance campaign pack? It's Dark Angels* vs Orks. It was re-released again as free download for later editions too, but the original 2E one was pretty good for changing up scenarios from the usual ones most people played, and the missions "accelerate" gradually; so, if you each paint up what you need for the next mission you play, you should end up with two fairly comprehensive armies for the game. It's probably also a nice excuse to make up some bits of terrain too, if you like. Also, you don't need totally new units for each mission, as quite a few missions re-use forces and/or characters that survived previous missions, so that keeps the painting queue more reasonable. Anyway, just an idea.  :)

*Other Space Marine Chapters are available!  ;)

And more realistic base suits the fantastic paint job well.

Thanks guys.

@Major - ya, I have the 3/4e re-release in PDF and looks pretty cool. The box and the bastion were the only cardboard pieces of terrain I was never able to track down for cheap, managed to get everything else. Maybe I can find someone willing to trade for the Warhammer campaign packs I have.
