Evil Dave's 15mm Konflikt '47 - Crossfire Sabot Basing
« on: January 17, 2022, 09:12:30 PM »
I saw Clockwork Goblin's 15mm K47 for the first time the other day and was hooked enough to start painting some American riflemen that I've had for a good five years now. I've had the FoW Armored Infantry Platoon to use with Chain of Command and other platoon-level games, 15mm K47 was the impetus to start seeing how they paint up. I promised myself I'd get to buy some mechs if I can finish the infantry first.

They're based on M10 washers for their weight and easy magnetized transport.

It's pretty bad when you have to bribe yourself to get new things. ;)

Looking good though, I do like the K47 game and figures, but I've gone for the 28mm ones.

Thanks guys. I need some incentive to paint this stuff, voltan.

I finished up the Bazooka and 60mm Mortar teams last night. I've got 10 more infantry, the 30 cal teams and the NCOs left.

I finished up the second batch of 15mm American Rifleman tonight. After the NCOs and 30 cal teams are done next week I hope to get to the halftracks and an M10.

Looking great Sir. I bought some of the original 15mm K47 and then cursed when warlord bought them, so I was very pleased to see Clockwork Goblin back to their original scale. I’ve used them to WWW2 up my normal PSC, Peter Pig and Battlefront WW2 chaps. I’m waiting for the US airborne mechs to be available.

Really nice paint work on those, having painted a slew of the old 15 mm Traveller figures I know that at that scale it's a totally different experience. Would almost be tempted myself if I didn't already have a sizable SOTR American force done up. Still, looking forward to your progress and thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys.

@BALM, I had thought K47 was always 28mm up until I saw a 15mm walker on FB two weeks back, and well here we are... I'm almost done with the next 10 infantry, once they're and the AVs I have are done I'll be putting in an order for the actual weird stuff.

@diehard, I was surprised at how quickly 15mm paints up. I started in some GZG New Israeli last year and these this year, and have been averaging 8ish a week without much of a time commitment.

The original 15mm production was a while ago now and can only have been around a year or so before Warlord bought them and they changed the scale. Every show I’d see the CG guys at I’d ask them when they were returning to 15mm and they’d look crestfallen as they’d obviously signed up to WG for a while and a few people had said the same thing. I’m really glad they’re back in 15mm I just need to invest in a good splurge of mechs (although I like their style so much I do own some unused 28mm versions).

I do find that well sculpted 15mm (GZG, Peter Pig and so on) can almost paint themselves with a little practice and washes are very effective at this size.

Looking forward to seeing your progress (I can’t decide which theatre - read Mat colour - to dedicate my K47 forces too….. I’m considering both desert and Europe as they are charming (and I could easily become obsessed with the spinne walkers).

@BALM, I'm leaning towards this mat at the moment. I want to see if they're doing something without the water but with similar ground cover though.

I finished up the last of the infantry I have this week. 40 figures in two weeks is a pretty good output for me. I also went back and painted the leather straps where I saw them over the brim of the helmets as I missed them the first time around. Next are the half-tracks and an M10, then on to something else while I wait for re-supply.

I started building M3 Halftracks at the start of the month and got most of the way through with them before I lost interest two weeks ago. I'll head back and finish them at somepoint but in the meantime I've been painting for riflemen to fill out the platoon and also built a paratrooper platoon on the whim.

The greens are done as of this week, and I've started in on the leather and wood. After that's done it'll be the skin, metal and bases.

Coming along splendidly. If I didn't have like a half dozen projects to finish already you make this really appealing looking. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to seeing more.

Brilliant stuff Dave. I like the CB mats and have the grassland 2 (Europe and Russia) and the Arid land (for Tunisia and Italy). They’re excellent quality and make generating a believable battlefield on the tabletop really achievable. I chose the plush versions of both mats (not sure if they still do this feature) which have a short pile which I think represents ground cover very well - people always come to look at them/touch them (with their dirty, sticky paws) whenever I’ve used them at club - a worthy investment.

I tend to have a number of different 15mm forces/projects on the go so I can swap and change if I burn myself out building/painting a particular thing - if you’re feeling really brave try the 15mm PSC Steyr cars - a real challenge of modelling skills, plastic manipulation and patience (the “dwarf bread” of model kits for wargaming Terry Pratchett fans!)

Keep up the good work,

Andrew

I made a start on my Germans ages ago, before CG said they were restarting 15mm.  I managed to get these off EBay.

I have lots more to come lol
