Pyrrhus v Demetrios
« on: 15 January 2025, 12:42:11 PM »
A fun ancient game last night using one of the scenarios from the excellent Pyrrhus book by HistoricOne
(https://historicone.com/en/products/pyrrhus-hannibals-model It is in French, but if your French is Ok, it is fantastic value).
Lots of scenarios with armies for DBA, Art de la Guerre, and Saga, although we used To the Strongest for this battle; easy to translate from the ADG OB.

In this scenario, the outnumbered Pyrrhus has to try and escape the superior forces of Demetrios (who is ill and suffers command penalties). The palisade represents the town of Edessa where Pyrrhus' baggage is stashed.
An interesting game; the hoplites stormed Edessa but then Pyrrhus just carved his way straight through the centre of the opposing army, sacked the camp, then cam back and hit the enemy from the rear
