The Old World.... Imperial dollies?
« on: July 13, 2025, 10:25:52 PM »
Hi Chaps,

On a bit of a nostalgia trip I have been purchasing Sunland miniatures figures which look like the old 6th (or was it 5th?) edition Empire troops-being honest I could not afford the minis when they first came out! I have even purchased some GW minis from the current Old World Empire range which with a bit of greenstuff and effort may produce half decent figures. My question is that I am left with 20 or even 30 spare arms with weapons from the sprue! Being tighter than Scrooge I hate to see this waste and wonder does anyone make the "dollies" to accept these spare parts? I do know that someone does this for the Perry minis and there is a cottage industry for 40K minis... I dont have a 3d printer...

I am sure that I cannot be the only person to be sprue gazing thinking of the potential left on them. Thanks for any comments or advice-finally I am partaking in Warhammer Fantasy!!

I know Kromlech has orc and ork bodies that work with the Old World-era orc models, but the catch is that buying the legs and torsos are more expensive on a per-model basis than just buying more plastic from GW, so as a money saving scheme it’s a bit of a nonstarter.

There are plenty of 'multi part not Empire' troops from various 3D print vendors - Reptilian Overlord, Grimforge, etc. Maybe see if there is a vendor or eBay or Esty that would do a custom print of just the bodies and legs for you?

Thanks for the pointers guys. I have some reptilian overlord figures on order-I hadn't realised that they were multi part so I will experiment with arms and heads from my left overs. Its a pity that it works out more expensive to buy torsos than more plastic! I may try the chap who sells bodies for the Perry stuff.... I am guessing that they will be a tad small sadly.
Thanks again for the help

I used to sell my renaissance footknight dollies (no head or arms) for this type of purpose back when I still owned my fantasy range. TAG took it over and while I don't think they added that option to their catalog, you might try dropping them a line to see if they want to fire up the old moulds for a custom order.

I mean, the obvious answer would be to sell the bitz on ebay? I know for a (personal) fact, that there is a huge market for that, since ppl like me are always looking for kitbash material. Other than that, you could look at wargames atlantic conquistadors or warlord games landsknechts... similar in style and size, should work for the most bits. I also found that the frostgrave kits work with some of the empire bits, not so much the humongous handguns, but the difference is fine for swords and handweapons.. all these options will however leave you with more bits, not less :D

I'll second Warlord Landsknecht, bought their handgunners a few weeks ago and they're perfect for Empire. as for dollies, Steel Fist Miniatures has some early modern ones that you could use? They should blend in fairly well, especially with Empire arms/heads.
