Gallery -- maximum picture size?

Does the Gallery automatically re-size pictures I upload? If not, is there a size limit (for example, 150k or something)?

Gallery images to upload are max allowed 1280x1024px with max. 500Kb file size.

Max display image width and height are 800px. A bigger pic won’t be resized, just will shows up max 800x800 size
