Illuminati + Necronomicon sigil seal scenic pieces
« on: January 16, 2011, 01:49:38 PM »
Hi all, been a while and the sculpting learning curve is coming along
with much help from forum members!  :)

I've got 2 pieces near finished, just working on optional display base so
they can be used horizontal or vertical.

First up is this one based on the seal of the Necronomicon, it's around 10cm across about
15mm deep. GW demon and sea demon from Andy at 4A miniatures for size comparison.........

Secondly this piece which I've based on the seal of the Illuminati, again about 10cm across and
15 mm deep.

plus a more detailed shot of that one to show the parts where I've gone for a "gribbly flesh lurking behind the rock
surface" look!

Feedback, comments and constructive critisising always warmly welcome, I can see where my sulpting is improving and
always appreciate a nudge in the right direction!   :D

Love these  :o
Put me down for a set when you release these, your sculpting is improving each time, now do some monsters I will happily cast it in metal for you.

Wow  :o cool....... can't say more than that and I will consider the gauntlet thrown down on the challenge for a miniature, which
is the one thing I've steered clear of so far!

I've been enjoying the sculpting so much I'm just kicking myself for not picking it up sooner!

Will have to think about a monster to try but I am up for suggestions!

Thanks again, feedback like this is what's driving me to do better, the Illuminati piece is without doubt the one I am most pleased with so far  8)

My only suggestion is make what you are interested in and have fun, But a top of the head suggestion is how about a creature coming alive from a wall engraving?
You should be really pleased with your work it is really good, I can see the Necronomicon sigil getting attached to my kindle case. I Wanted something a bit different  ;D

WOW!

I've been thinking about doing something very similar to this, but I am a little lost as to where to start.

If you have the time, could you share your method, tools and materials? I'd really appreciate it!

That's exactly where I was 2 months ago, had some ideas but no idea of what to do or how to do it.

I use Super Sculpey, the beige stuff that comes in a 454gm or 1lb block...... it stays soft until fired in an
oven so mistakes can be made freely, which for me took a lot of the self-imposed pressure off. It means
you can keep practicing and practicing with the same clay so set-up costs aren't scary either.

You can use wire armatures, tin foil armatures or in the case of my sigil pieces I glued 3 cork coasters together and
then squashed the clay onto it, using a roller to flatten it out. All the detailing is done with a set of metal dental tools
which can be picked up from Ebay quite cheaply too.......

Other than that get onto model making forums, get hints and tips but don't be put off by the standard of others work - they've been doing it ages! Other than that Google searching for ideas is well worth it's weight in gold.

Have fun and let the ideas flow, find your own style and it gets easier, don't be afraid to trash a piece and start again.

Hope that is of some help, that's what I'm doing and it's working for me  :)

Hmm, mad half an hour for the camera! I'm sketching out an idea from Frothers for an
optional middle part for the Illuminati piece, or just as a piece on it's own...... pic a bit
dark but here's the idea taking shape so far....
