Necronomicon
« on: June 03, 2008, 05:33:19 PM »
I've been looking for a good, cheap collection of Lovecraft stories, having read a few in the past and finally stumbled on this one:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Necronomicon-Weird-Fiction-Lovecraft-Gollancz/dp/0575081562/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1212509561&sr=8-1

Apparently 36 stories, 900 odd pages and leather-bound. All for £19.00  :o

Well, I just got one at amazon.co.uk for £12.50   lol

I'd call that a bargain....  :D

Sounds like the motherload of Lovecraft.

This would jam my shelves even more.

After many moves, I've gotten rid of tons of books.  Only the best of the best horror have remained.  Books are so hard to part with.books.  Even though I begrudgingly admit, I'll likely never read some of the short stories again, I just can't part with some of them.

I really wish someone would compile the best stories from the entire lovecraft circle.  I'm very fond of Ramsey Campbell's "Cold Print" with Glaaki and YGolonac.

They'd fall into two types.

Gothic Cthuhluesque Horror - Arthur Machen, M. R. James, Ramsey Campbell
Extreme Horror - John Shirley, Ed Lee, Jack Ketchum, Dan Simmons,

There are some very good modern extreme books with aspects of both that kinda have a Cthulhuesqe feel too.

I highly recommend:
"Wetbones" by John Shirley
"Song of Kali" by Dan Simmons
"Terror" by Dan Simmons
"Slither" by Ed Lee

Surpernatural unexplained horror is my favorite.  If you have any good suggestions please throw me some of your favorites.

My miniatures, wife and two young boys limit my availble reading time but I love a good book when I can find one.
