Bull Run to Gettysburg Rules Help

I hope someone can help with two questions:

1)  In the scenarios included in the book I don't see any description of unit quality (i.e., "Veteran").  Where can I find that information?

2)  In the section about building point-based forces there is a possibility to upgrade Union units to "Regular" for an extra cost in points, but I didn't see any benefit to "Regular" units anywhere in the rules.  What have I missed?

Dave is out of the country at present but I'll try,

1) I think this is entirely up to you, it would have been easy to put ratings in I suppose but these things are entirely subjective and best left to the player I believe. The early war scenarios are more likely to have untried and tested troops in the majority, whilst later ones would have more tested and veteran.

2) Not sure where this crept in, can't ever remember any differences regarding regulars in any of the play tests either.

Phil, I can't help thinking that Foundry added the army lists, how else would there be an anomaly that the confederates can field a unit of US Sharpshooters, Dave would not have made that error?

Could well be, you know that both Dave and I agree with Howard Whitehouse that "points are for cissies".

Appreciate the assistance.  Nice to know I didn't overlook something in my reading.  Neither of these issues should be a problem for my usual gaming partner, but we are trying to bring some of the Flames of War gamers into the Napoleonic and ACW world.  If an errata is published, an "official" rating might help convert them.

I'm in a Public Info Office in Moonta, South Australia, so I'll try and answer point 1 first: There is intentionally no classification in the scenarios. Players can either use their historical knowledge of the period or be subjective about it, which ever they prefer. After all, classification is subjective anyway. Point 2, you've missed nothing, I just thought folk might like to have historical units sometimes and would want Regulars, the classification regards the degree of experience and training.

Silly, errare humanum est, and that rules allways apply, no matter who we are talking about.

However, points are not for sissys, they are a way of estimating value for ease of gaming. Even though I mainly game without points, for various systems, it sure helps with some types of game mechanics. Bla bla bla.

Yankeepedlar01, thanks so much for your response.  It's good to know why you designed the scenarios the way you did.  Let me also compliment you on these rules.  I have been a student of the ACW for over 50 years now and I have looked for a set of rules that capture the flavor of that battlefield with a simple, intuitive flow.  You achieved that.  You also provide the best synopsis of the Civil War I have seen as you lay the background for your scenarios.  Extremely well done to you.

Virginiayankee,Thanks very much for the compliment,it's much appreciated. Sadly the net is all too often full of negative feedback. But then, it ever was easier to criticise...
On a different point, the rules do contain a points system to allow players to use them with the scenarios if they want, but I do believe that any classification of training or morale at this distance of time is subjective. That's my view anyway.
