Pythons of Set: Conan cult 4 cheap
« on: February 01, 2012, 04:23:54 AM »
Being a REH reader and Conan movie fan, I was inspired to give my fantasy figures a Hyborian/D&D setting. The Reaper minis seen in photo 2 are the first metals I've painted, having spent my free time last year practicing on plastics (less $ wasted if ruined). The persian-like human warriors are Confrontation "Dirz" swordsmen that Fantasy Flight Games sold during the Xmas season for five dollars a box. I painted over the zombie skin, swapped in some spears, and marked their shields with the famous Thulsa Doom snake emblem. A pair of them lost hands in the process... ;)

The serpent captains include a mottled warrior with jade sword, and a sorcerer from the Pathfinder series. Their pets are D&D plastic minis painted with a more natural python pattern. I haven't finished their queen (Pathfinder Lamia sculpt), but I think she'll have a light yellow/sienna color almost like an albino.

Good stuff - I wish my painting had started off so well!
Back from the dead, almost.

update to feature the shape-changing Python Queen, a Lamia mini from Reaper. She carries a Jade pike to match her captain's sword; practices necromancy with her growing skull collection  :)

Very cool.

I now wish I had bought some of those Dirz when I saw them on sale a while ago. You're right they are great for a Conan project.

Your snake scale patterns are a really nice touch. I wouldn't expect to see anything like this from someone that hasn't been painting for a really long time.

I concur on the VERY COOL commentary. You may not have all that much time in the craft, but your pieces are turning out VERY NICELY. Keep up the GOOD WORK!
