What system do you play?
« on: 03 March 2012, 04:33:28 PM »
I have been wanting to get in to a postapocalypitc game for ages but cant seem to find a system that suits me, something along the lines of Fallout/The Road/The Afterblight Chronicles would be good, can anyone point me in the right direction?

I fall into the make your own rules camp, but for now I recommend Mutants and Death Ray Guns for the full-scope of available types of models.  Atomic Cafe 1957 is also good.  I've ran both to good results.  Mutants and Death Ray Gun is probably more starter friendly.

Wastelands 3: Meltdown is great, has a very good campaign system, and is FREE!
Mutants & Death Ray Guns is alot of fun and very good too.

I've read great things about wasteland 3 but I can't seem to be able to download the rules without having to sign up for Filedropper.

Is there any way of getting the rules without having to sign up for that? im not too thrilled about having to give them my paypal info for a free PDF

That game is available on the Post Apoc Wargames forum and was written by one of our members. http://s1.zetaboards.com/Post_Apoc_Wargames/index/

Either PM me here or over there with your email address and I will email the rules to you.

I like Nuclear Renaissance 2 and 2085 Warlords of the Wasteland/Skank rules too (both are also free). I also love the Neutron York 3000 rules which are my current PA rules fix.

I tend to use Skank/warlods of the Wastelands 2085 (same game, different names depending on how impressive it's trying to sound) due to the fact it's free, rules light, designed for games sitting in the post apoc/near future/modern spectrum and is background neutral...

For future/post-apoc skirmish I use Shockforce/WarEngine mostly, but have also dabbled with Future Wars and Gangs of MegaCity One.  For zombies, I use my own house rules heavily modified from Starship Troopers/Apocalypse Z mechanics.

I'm about to dabble with the post-apocalypse again. And like others, as I've yet to find the rule set that does it right - for me - I'm currently writing up my own homebrew version of Blasters & Bulkheads for post-apocalypse (and science fiction... and fantasy... and pulp... in fact, I'm writing my very own GURPS set'o'rules :D)

Other than that, I would also recommend Mutants & Death Ray Guns for a quick PA fix, with Wastelands as a close second.

Finding PA/near future rule sets has always proven a bit difficult for me.

Having to figure out not only if I like the sound of the rules but if friends would be willing to play the too.

Being former GW gamers Necromunda is at least a ruleset we are all kinda familier with.

Ganesha's games do seem very interesting but my friends don't like feeling every action is just a "both roll a dice and highest wins" ... now I know the Ganesha games are more complicated than this but it is their initial reaction, and having shooting and melee both based on an identical stat feels a bit weird even to me.
