Captain Transgender?
« on: 11 January 2013, 09:28:25 AM »
I must admit I didn't know he's all woman these days... But then again, I've never thought myself as comics-sawwy in the least:

It might be open up an avenue of exploration (and a can of worms) to try and transgender some of the big name supers in miniature form -- if the publishers hadn't pretty much gotten there first with a plethora of <insert popular hero/villain epiteth here>girls and -women, of course o_o

Captain Marvel in DC is a man.
Captain Marvel in Marvel is a woman.
Other than that I dont think I see where you are going with this. Unless your just interested in talking about trasngendered stuff in general and use this as an excuse to do so. After all a miniature is just a miniature, you can paint them as you like.
You can even take some ugly old miniatures with little detail on the faces and just say its the opposite gender.

Really, should we go into history ? CM is a woman since the original male (yet Kree, not Human) CM died, in the 80's ... She fought a bunch of rogue mutants, amongst which a brunette called 'Rogue', then further turned into 'Binary' in the 90's, while fighting the Brood.
What do they teach you at school those days ? ;)

Well, that explains it then 8)

My following up the Marvel Captain Marvel pretty much ended with The Death of Captain Marvel. For some reason the character doesn't seem to have cropped up anywhere in the very few superhero comics I've read since the late 1980's. I was lead to believe the female heiress was a newfangled thingy, possibly a reboot but now it's clear as mud.

Carol Danvers has mainly used the monicker "Ms. Marvel".
But now she's using the "Captain Marvel" one (although she's actually a major of the air forces).
Simples!
She was lover to the original kree Captain Marvel, and she received her powers due to kree-human DNA mixing. I have a feeling I know how that DNA was mixed... lol

And regarding the "popular pop character transgender thing", that's actually a cosplay fashion and there's even a name for that. But I can't remember it now. :(

I confess I went lost 10 years ago with the Marval universe. Now due to the 3, maybe 4 reboots most characters had to go through, there's a chance your primary guess was right ;) I can't remeber the name of that Image character, a male super from FreakForce that had a female alter ego ... never mind.

Well, i am not into Super Heroes wether they are Marvel or some other variety but i quite like that female Captein Marvelous. And i don't give a flying f*** if (s)he's transgender or not.

In addition to her recent revival in comics, they made her a great character on the Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon. And there's a rumor she's going to be in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie. So, fingers crossed.

She was Ms. Marvel in that...since Captain Marvel was a character also. A very good series I have to admit, very close to old history I knew with a few new twists.

I guess it depends what you mean by a reboot! Marvel have relaunched titles from issue 1 (mainly because issue 1's generate more sales and so more income!) but it has all taken place in the same continuity established in the 1960's.

Now DC's 52 was a half-bothered attempt at a reboot that seemed to see some characters starting fresh and others (mainly the Batman titles) keeping loads of past continuity and making one hell of a confusing mess!
