Heroclix as 28mm?
« on: 13 January 2013, 12:28:46 AM »
So can you use Heroclix figures for 28mm purposes? Have had terrible luck finding anything other the very basics about the line.

You could use the old stuff, yeah. It seems they have redesigned it so they are 'bobbleheads' now...

Older sets are your best bet, though some are still a little big next to non "Heroic" 28s. Are there any particular figures you have in mind? I have a fair swathe I can maybe compare for you?

I think the Bobble head ones are for a Tablet App version of the game.

Heroclix figures are often huge in comparison with a standard 28mm scale (and they seem to be getting larger with each release). IMHO they measure much more like 32-35mm figures (or larger). As with many other lines (I'm looking at you Reaper) there seems to be a wide variance in scale from figure to figure within the range too.

I was thinking cheap bases for conversions - my sense of anatomical proportion is shit as is my ability to sculpt faces, I can do cloths and gear well enough, but I need a base. And I'm very cheap. Guys and girls with guns and minimal detailing, more or less 28mm.

The HeroClix supers ranges vary massively in terms of scale - I'm pretty sure I have some that are close to 40mm while others are tiny, much closer to 25mm. So really I'd advise picking up a bundle or two relatively cheaply on ebay, using the ones that fit and selling on the rest to try to make back some of the extra investment in the figs you know you're not going to be able to use anyway.

the old heroclix figs mix quite well with heroic 28mm. Exemple, those from Marvel Cloberrin time range.

I only have the Dark Knight Rises Heroclix set (which, a bit oddly, also includes Joker and  Two-Face but I'm not really complaining 8)) and IIRC it's well compatible with Inifinity and such "slightly taller but realistically/idealisticly proportioned" lines. The figs are definitely less chunky than typical "heroic" 28mm minis, which again is nothing I'm going to complain about. Mileages might vary.
