Removing inks and shading bright colors?
« on: 07 February 2013, 08:45:28 PM »
First question: I made a huge mess on a model by using a wash that was way too dark. Short of starting over completely from scratch is there anything I can do to get it off?

Second question: How the heck do I shade bright colours like yellow and white without staining everything an awful muddy mess? (I'm not a good enough painter to do much beyond base colours, ink washes and dry brushing).

If it's a shellac ink like W&N you MIGHT get away with a cotton bud moistened with meths. If it's an acrylic ink over acrylic paint, you're in deep schtuk. Can you put a glaze of the base coat over the whole thing and recover it that way?
Measure with a micrometer, mark with chalk, cut with an axe, hammer to fit, paint to match!

Oh, sorry - regarding shading white or yellow I've never found a way with washes. I have only ever got it to work by shading directly (greys for white, shades of brown for yellow).

It's an acrylic ink over acrylic paint...so start over it is!

As to shading brighter colours I guess I'll have to learn some proper blending techniques... :(
