54mm horse recommendations
« on: 01 April 2016, 03:20:12 PM »
Hi there, I'm looking to build a nice hippogriff to add to my D&D bestiary. However, I know of no nice hippogriffs (naked ones, at least), and so am planning to build my own using the very nice GW LotR Great Eagles as a front end and, I'm hoping, a 54mm scale horse as the back. I'm hoping that they will fit together reasonably well, but I have no experience with 54mm minis and was wondering if anyone would have any suggestions with regards to good examples from people in the know :)

Thanks

Hard plastic or soft? Standing or moving? Getting hold of just one might be a bit of a challenge, as they come in sets. Italeri are IMHO the best sculpted (and also the most 'expensive' and have saddles etc moulded on; Armies In Plastic are cheaper but not so well sculpted but they are without moulded on saddles etc so might be better for you; Airfix are between the two and are 'bare backed'; Britains are also, mostly, nicely done but have a support under their bellies...

I could let you have the odd Airfix, Britain or AIP if that is all you need?
