Yet another matte coat tragedy
« on: 14 July 2013, 08:10:36 AM »
Just finished my Mercenary archer for my dungeon adventures and the paint job was really good.  I had re sculpted and reworked a favorite Reaper figure from a farmer to a archer.  Then "bang "!!!!! >:(white spots from my matte finish, it was strange because it was only on the first blast the rest of the figures seemed ok. Now I have to repaint him. back to the drawing board :)

Even trusted sprays deserve a test shot or two...I have messed up plenty of stuff with bad paint...from toys to tools to rifles.

Try to apply a thin layer of gloss varnish it really helps to remove the white spots. Then coat again with matte varnish.

Olive oil also seems to work. (or so I heard). I always hate it when these things happen. That's why I only apply brush on varnishes.

Hi

No idea who thought of it but olive oil works for me when I get that white frosting from mat varnish. I dab a kitchen cloth in a small drop and gently rub the affected area. Leaves a glossy sheen as you would expect but the white goes completely and  I get rid of the glossiness by painting with Vallejo matt varnish.

I had an unfortunate frosting accident happen to me once and have used brush-on varnish ever since.
