I know exactly what you mean though with regards to unit painting finish vs combat effectiveness!

Love the minis, and love the paintwork.  The flags aren't up to the level of the minis to me.  I think they're a bit too clean and paper-looking compared to the awesome paintwork/poses on the figs.

That's a properly good looking group though.
