Comparison of 28mm VSF figures?
« on: 21 September 2013, 04:29:47 PM »
All,
So I think VSF is exactly what I have been looking for.  I've been wanting to do basically H.G. Wells meets the Prisoner of Zenda, andVSF seems to fit the bill.  I wonder though, has anyone done a good comparison of the various manufacturer's figures?  I see North Star (newset?),  Artizan, Ironclad, Brigade, Westwind, Musketeer and probably others whose figures would fit the genre.  I always prefer to use figures from the same manufacturer or at least the same sculptor.

Colonel Marbles has some VSF Showcases. They may not be completely up-to-date, but they will show off the older ranges.

Col. Marbles listing is useful, but unfortunately does not compare manufacturers. It is a shame that one can't search for figures by sculptor.

Well, from the sculptors that have worked the most across ranges, Mike Owen and Paul Hicks are coming to mind:

Mike Owen:
- part of the Northstar IHMN range
- Part of the Brigade Games range, specifically the Victorian Gang range and a nice steam armoured cowboy in the Gaslight range
- his own Artizan Designs range, which has some suitable minis in the Thrilling Tales and Old West ranges
- Some of the newer Foundry Cowboy range

Paul Hicks:
- the Brigade Games steampunk range (and very nice too)
- the Empress Miniatures Zulu War range (lots of useful brits)
- the Hinterland female Hussar and Prussian figures
- the bac Ninh Miniatures Meji figures (Japanese from the same period)
- Mutton Chop Miniatures (there's a Holmes & Watson in there)
- Tsuba Miniatures (the Good, the bad and the Weird figures)

Okay, let me take the question a step further.  If I wanted to go "old school" and use true 25mm like Ral Partha and RAFM,  what other figures would natch up with them?

Not much, I'd reckon.  ???

Maybe old Foundry historicals (colonial and old west).

And I believe the Brigade Games Parroom Station range is on the small end as well.

Though truth be told, I haven't seen the RAFM ones in person, so this is just an estimate.
