Ancients Figures size comparison help needed
« on: November 15, 2011, 06:23:01 AM »
Hi all,

Could anyone help with some pictures of size comparisons for some ancients ranges.

looking at Carthaginian's from Gripping Beast, Renegade Miniatures and Crusader Miniatures.   Any others would also be most welcome.

Thanks for any help you can offer

Cheers

OK, can't help with Carthiginians specifically, but Gripping Beast and Crusader Dark Ages (Picts, Saxons etc) match well.

Black Tree (if you're feeling brave / mad) are a good match too. Newline will match, IMO, but other opinions may vary.

Renegade Saxons are noticable wider than those from GB and Crusader, and have humungous hands (I mean like two-gallon buckets!), and (IMO, again), weird faces, like the one Ally Morrison used to sculpt for GW eleves back in the 1980's / 90's. Great on elves, but I'm less convinced on Saxons...

I think they do match GB / Crusader, but depending on your taste they might be a step too far. I'll try to get some piccies up on my blog soon showing the different figures side by side, for comparison.

Hope this helps,

M

Measure with a micrometer, mark with chalk, cut with an axe, hammer to fit, paint to match!

Thanks for the info.  I look forward to seeing the pictures.    I rather like the Crusader figures and the variety of Gripping Beast.   I know that Renegade are fairly big and have pretty dull horses but there figures are easy to paint :)   At the moment I think I am steering towards GB and Crusader

I've got some Crusader huscarls, and they were gorgeous, but as a rule of thumb, I'd say if you went with Crusader and the Beast you cannot go far wrong!

I've added a couple of comparison pictures for different manufacturers' Saxons to my blog:
