Basing Advice for medievals
« on: 19 November 2013, 10:24:53 PM »
I'm assembling some large scale medieval battles using 20mm zvezda (and similar) soft plastic figures. Amazing how quick they paint up. I've been basing them, cavalry and infantry, on 25mm renedra bases, the thin ones. I'd like to have movement trays to help shift the masses around easily, but I also want (picky bugger that I am) each figure to be individually based so I can remove individual casualties during games.

I can't find movement trays with individual recesses for each figure that are shallow enough for the renedra bases, nor do I want to buy deeper recessed trays and fill them in until the bases sit level. I'd like each movement tray to have a unified surface (grasses and flowers etc.) so just sitting the troops on CDs or trays dowesn't work either.

I'm trying to get past my hesitations and procrastinations and just DO SOMETHING. I get tired of waiting for the perfect product in the perfect shade made in the perfect size. I'll never get anything done at that rate. Have you any advice or ideas to help me get thses guys based and on the tabel? Thanks.

I drilled a 2mm hole in my Renedra bases - 2x1mm rare earth magnet glued in with superglue - movement trays either made from cookie boxes or 0,5mm sheet metal.

Capt Blood uses thin rings and builds his movement trays around that (I supply the rings  ;)).

Have a look through his thread on the medieval board (the WotR one) and it'll make sense  :)

cheers
