A chap named Guizot wrote a book called
L'Histoire de France, published in 1870 - the illustrations are splendidly inaccurate in the best 19th century manner.

The same applies to Ward Lock's 1885
Illustrated History of the World. (I don't have either of them, but a number of plates are reproduced in a modern book called
Warlords, with contemporary illustrations by Angus McBride, may he rest in peace.)
