Wow, almost complete!
« on: 08 March 2014, 03:01:23 PM »
Just feeling too good with a realization/epiphany not to share.

I am organizing what I am keeping as I cleanout /sell off miniatures for retirement and I have decided to organize my fantasy armies as one army per KR Multicase case.  My Ral Partha (early) 1970s Goblins are almost complete (I posted what I need need to finish on the Wanted part of the Bazaar) as on the verge (12 figures!) of being completed.   :o   8)   :)

When I get some time I will post a group picture of these figures.

Rather late in the game of life I have started making my armies what I will call thematic (Ral Partha Goblins, Der Kriegspieler Dwarf, Grenadier "Floppy hat" Dwarf, DK "Smiley Faced" Goblins, <elves are a TBD mess/mix currently>) and it is what I should have done years ago.  I had what I call my Eureka moment - I want each army to have a unity of sculpting/style that identifies it clearly.)

Mostly this is both winnowing out what I bought that doesn't fit that theme (EBay, LAF, local Yahoo group,) and organizing/rebasing to a common standard (20 mm circle for trained levy/militia and 3/4" squares for regular/professional troops,) then painting.  Even with the winnowing/reduction I suspect that at my age I shall not finish these (Fantasy, SF, VSF, Historical,) armies/fleets/air corps/skirmish forces  before I end this pilgrimage on Earth but it makes the hobby much more pleasant now that I see a viable plan.

I guess that is wisdom gained with age.

Gracias,

Glenn

Always good to get near to completing a range etc. Problem with me is I then look for another.... :D Ral Partha Tom Meier sculpts may be getting re-released by Iron Wind - the old CS range and maybe others depending on popularity......a lot may be going on. A lot of mays there...maybe  lol

Once I finish with my SAGA Vikings I plan to return to my Otherworld minis.  I just LOVE the line in a way that I havent liked fantasy minis in decades.  The GW stuff got too spiky armor, and I think that helped determine the general trend of art.  But the OW stuff is a realization of that old AD&D art, piggy orcs and all...

Looking forward to your photos Glenn!

I have to agree with TBC...Otherworld are some of the best minis I've ever seen/handled...their prices are a bit silly though, so it'll prevent me from owning a large range of them.  Shame really.  I wish they'd ditch some of the stuff you don't need (sculpted metal bases, foam cases etc.).  Oh well, can always hope.  lol
