Longhorn painting inspiration
« on: 21 February 2015, 01:54:27 AM »
Hey guys.
long time no see.

more active online these days with my painting stuff. just put a blog post up about longhorn cattle and the pictures i used for inspiration as well as funny names and ideas for how to paint the diferent types of cows. thought it fitted old west best as thats what im going to use them for in my game black west with the "stampede" rule.

check it out here

please feel free to leave c&c as i always love ot improve and this community did so much for me in the past. but please also comment on the blog if you feel its cool as i am trying to encourage more user feedback on the site!

Peace and a tip of the old stetson

Mug is just fine.  But why doesn't he (?) resemble any of your bovine-ographs you show above his (?) photos?

perhaps you misunderstand the meaning of inspiration? i did in fact use a combination of three of the photos for my inspiration. Mug is unique. thanks for the feedback :)

What a fine looking beast.
Useful reference material too.

This should all come in very handy when I get to the hacienda in future.
Thank you.

No problem mason. when looking for inspiration i have a general rule.

1. grab a pic off google
2. write down one thing i like about the color
3. then three things i like about the way its applied.

you will often find you know exactly what scheme you want to use if you do this most of the time, also its just a great way to collect folders of interesting inspiration photos. collating them like i have in this blog post can help to keep them together and out of your hard drive.

hope this helps
:)

I like the paintwork! I have a bunch of Ertl Longhorns that I managed to track down that need to have some work done on them now.
