New Coat D'arms Super Washes and Yellow Ink
« on: 13 November 2008, 05:04:21 PM »
We have just released 10 new paints in for our Coat D'arms Fantasy Range.

These are:

168 Ink Wash - Yellow

This adds the missing ink colour that Coat D'arms didn't produce.

We also have a range of 9 Super Washes.  These are designed to be used directly from the bottle and are formulated to shade and dry matt:

169 Super Wash - Black
170 Super Wash - Green
171 Super Wash - Red
172 Super Wash - Blue
173 Super Wash - Yellow
174 Super Wash - Purple
175 Super Wash - Light Brown
176 Super Wash - Mid-Brown
177 Super Wash - Dark Brown

All these washes and inks come in 18ml pots and cost £1.50 a pot.

We also have a launch offer of just £12.00 for the 9 Super Washes (giving you 9 for the price of 8).

These will be available at Warfare next weekend and through our various retailers as soon as they get stocks.

Interesting.

As a user of your Inks - which I mix and use as "Washes and Glazes" tell me if these new "Washes" are going to be "better."  How do they compare to the inks?

My main reason for asking is that recently I have been painting Horses, with my own mixed washes, and reading this makes me wonder if it would be quicker to use these new products?  (And possibly better?)

On another topic, any progress on Triads?  (And I don't mean Chinese Gangsters  ;) )

I'm guessing these new washes will be similar to the GW ones, in which case I expect I'll be buying some.

I wasn't convinced by the reviews at first, but then tried a couple myself and I really do like them. They are very different to inks, in that you have a bit more control over where you want them to go and like Mike says, they do dry matt.

The colour is not as deep as an ink, but they are good for subtle shading and can be mixed together easily to get some really nice effects. They'll never supercede inks as they are useful for different things, so I could not understand GWs decision to discontinue their line in favour of the new washes.

They will work very well on horses in my opinion, and I'm glad to see the BH ones are coming in a variety of browns (is it just me, or can there never be enough shades of brown?), and the yellow will be especially welcome as that one was very noticeably absent from the GW set.

Nice one Mike, why don't I just hand you all my wages in future? It might save time...  ;)

I'd be very interested in this range!

I'll wait for a couple of reviews first, but like JB, if they are anywhere as good as GW's, I'll buy yours instead.

One question - is the green wash a bright shade like the GW version [which I don't like very much] or more muted and therefore suitable for modern camo colours.?

If not, will you be bringing out shades that work with olive greens and drabs etc?

OK, two questions, but who cares?  ;)

As Jolly Bob says these are inspired by the GW washes and aim to produce a similar effect.  They are designed to be used straight from the bottle and settle into the recesses, shading the figure and drying matt.

They are different to inks, which is why we've added them to the range.  Luckily we are able to expand the range as we have space in our new racks - GW are limited by rack space in their shops and would have to replace all the racks if they added to the range.

I am waiting until Steve Dean is completely happy with the triads he is working out before sorting those out, but expect that to be the next month's project once Warfare is out of the way.

We also have another new Coat D'arms product range coming out next week....

thanks

Mike

The green wash is fairly bright  - all the shades are a close match to the GW ones, so the three browns match the flesh, sepia and mud colours.

I don't have any plans for adding to them at the moment, as this fills our rack space, but possibly we will in the future if enough people ask for them.

thanks

Thanks for the quick reply, Mike.

No problems, I could probably experiment and mix some brown into the green for a more muted shade. Good n ews that they match GW's, as I like the browns, black etc very much and as yours are cheaper.......  ;)

It's also good to see you have inks. I like the old GW range and when mine run out, I'll pay you a visit.

cheers,
Ian

This IS interesting news...

I had no idea, that Black Hat is also going to bring out triads - I'm at the moment getting used to Foundry's - rather expensive - triads, and I'm looking forward to see - and try - yours!

Thanks.

I'll sort out an order.  (I have some more horses to paint.  Soon...ish.)

Edit:  I have ordered.  Is there a CDA equivalent to vallejo "Ivory"  I was looking for an off-white and couldn't see one.  Just wondered.

I am guessing 112 Bone - equivalent to Bleached Bone from GW

Thanks, but no, that isn't it. I use the CDA "Bone" and it is a very different colour.  Not to worry though.  Just a thought as I was ordering other stuff.

Have you tried the Unbleached Linen, OT?

I have been using it, and find it very nice. Not quite the same as the ivories, it has a slightly greenish look in the bottle, but dries without it. Worth a go if you haven't already tried it.
