Superglue 'frosting' on painted minis
« on: 02 May 2015, 08:17:52 AM »
I superglued some minis after painting and 'frosting' (the residue from the superglue fumes) appeared on some of the varnished paint.

In case it's relevant, the minis were painted with Vallejo acrylics and varnished with Revell (brush-on, spirit-based, gloss then matt).

After leaving the super-glued minis for about 12 hours to gas-off, I brushed over the frosting with another coat of the Revell Matt varnish and ...... the frosting disappeared.

Can anyone explain how/why this 'magic trick' works?

Thanks  :)

My LAF Gallery is HERE
Minis (foot & mounted) finished in 2025 = 74
(2024 = 38; 2023 = 151; 2022 = 204; 2021 = 123; 2020 = ???)

The frosting is most likely not a change in the colour of the former used pigments. It is some sort of say .. crystals roughing up the surface by layering it. So the surface isn't smooth anymore. When coating again, the surface is smoth and therefore shiny again.

That would be my explaining, actually never thought about it before.
