Looks very promising.  Eager to see more.
Now what is this whole life of mortals but a sort of comedy, in which the various actors, disguised by various costumes and masks, walk on and play each one his part, until the manager waves them off the stage?

Very nice!  :-*

I'm painting up some Huscarls myself at the moment and these are a nice bit of inspiration.

Regarding the Battle of Hastings have you read the following: http://www.karwansaraypublishers.com/pw/medieval-warfare/blog/too-tired-to-fight-harold-godwinsons-saxon-army-on-the-march-in-1066/  I found it an interesting read.

Thanks for the link. I'm quite well versed in the period but I hadn't read the article prior to you posting this but was familiar with the theory. It is very plausible that Harold Godwinson did in fact use two armies to fight in the two campaigns. It also has to be borne in mind that he did enjoy particularly good relations with the Northern Earls as he had found common ground with them by tirfing Tostig out for taking advantage of the position his brother's misrule in the North, This no doubt strengthened Harold's own relationship with the Northern Earls and possibly garnered their crucial support for his earlier bid for the crown.

Here's a quick pic of the back rankers for the Huscarls in this unit:

Great stuff - a nice choice of colours.

Thanks- I'm trying to keep everything technically muted so's I retain that lived in 'Dark Ages' look.

I'm going to add some Autumn fauna (Hastings did take place in October) and there should be the unit of Huscarls for the Front Ranks of this unit ready by the end of the weekend.

I'm quite excited about the Huscarls as they will contain  ini's from Footsore, Saxon and Gripping Beast as well as the odd old Foundry model!  :)

In the meantime, here's more WIP's.....

A couple of Huscarls:

Thanks for looking,
Darrell.

Great!  :-*

I agree with the choice of colours. I like to keep mine muted also, if the colour is too bright, like many other people I will mix in a bit of brown.

I'm itching for Bill (Footsore miniatures) to release his huscarls, they will be on my Christmas list if released in time.

I just add a slight touch of the complementary colour. This cannot fail but to mute it as it is the technical way of creating a 'grey' (which actually aren't greys as such..... long explanation!)

i've got some of his Thegns (thanks Andrew! :) ) that I'll be using for spear armed Huscarls just for now. These guys, although professional warriors may have had armours that there different from one another (and there may have been possible damage to some at Stamford Bridge (Battle on the river Ouse).

More pics very shortly!!

Darrell.
