I think  it's going to be hard to fulfill and it may end up that some of the big things end up being that restic stuff to compensate. 60k is not a huge amount for making plastic sprues. I guess they expected all of Dakka Dakka to get behind them. Unfortunate as I would like to see things get put into production as I like the look of the walkers and could see myself purchasing them some time down the line.

I think a big problem with this kick starter is too much was set in stone before the kick starter started. So that when these things were revealed and people said we don't like x or y they had no way to change it or take on board change so instead in some cases just doubled down and said this is why you are wrong towards any criticism which I think left some people a little disappointing. Also if you look at the thread on Dakka some of the more zealous fans of the game have basically jumped on people who have dared criticize the game which I know drove some people away.

Its also two sci fi human factions in a market littered with great sci fi human models already.

I wish them the best but there was nothing in the kick starter at all that made me feel wow I need to back this.

Aye, this. I thought it was a bit ironic that a primarily GW fansite managed to tap into GW's... milieu (I think): A hard core of loyal fanatics, but apparently less than hoped for.

Gotta confess that I still can't get my head round all the politics and games of kickstarter, that fool people into funding and still leave campaigns without enough money to pay for things that they collected enough money for... ;D In this case, just how Maelstrom's Edge had less funding than hoped for. They smashed their main funding goal almost immediately - what'd that cover, the two main types of infantry? The rest, stretch goals and extras? Why don't they have enough to cover those? Targets too low, asking prices too little, or what?

And yeah, some of the merch on offer reminds me of a few other releases and previews recently: a few people making a lot of fuss about minis that TBH look pretty dated, even if they're new. Not terrible (mostly) but dated.

I have to agree as well, on the whole 'not feeling this game' consensus so far. It's all been done and seen before.

So having seen Mad Max Fury Road recently, it's all I can do to not shout 'Mediocre!' at the top of my lungs. :D

But honestly; even though the product obviously is not everyone's cup of tea, there is something brave about a forum, run by volunteers, in their free time(!), to take on such a massive and risky project (at least they were, when I was still moderating on the Bolter and Chainsword forum; we regularly collaborated on stuff back then).

At the least, it's sort of refreshing to see a largish miniature games Kickstarter not started up by an established company.

So if only for that, one has to salute their cojones courage and optimism.

As for the terrain sprues; my interest was immediately piqued, but at that price, I fear I'll have to pass those as well. Now, if they were offered at GBP 5,- or even GBP 4,-, I'd be all over them. But not now, which is kind of a shame. :(

Robots are pretty nice though...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Yeah I feel the products are pretty dated too. The Ephirans especially who are just too blocky and do look like something from the mid 90's. The Karists are better in this respect.

Personally I have no problem with the idea of kickstarter as long as I go into it with the view that "This is a product I want to exist and I am willing to risk losing some disposable income to make that happen." That said I haven't backed all that many kick starters and the only one that genuinely has disappointed me is the Deadzone one. Also Deadzone was before mantic started using Kickstarter to prop up their every new release. Other than that everything else has either been delivered or the proposed delivery date isn't here yet.

Goes for me too, the terrain sprues are great, but much too expensive for what you get. Should be half that price or less.
Also since very early on in the KS they were promising"add-on" options for individual units/figures but seem to have abandoned that idea. Shame, as that would have given them some more options and potentially new backers.

In the final hours and it's at $60k.
A respectable showing, but I wonder if the creators consider that a success?   Obviously they have already funded some of the plastic figs out of their own pockets, but I'm not sure if 60k is enough to fund the rest of the models and game components and if it's enough of a showing to get picked up for distribution.

Don't want to be a Debbie downer, I do hope everything works out for them.

I asked this over at Dakka, and the answer was basically that they were going to produce the game with our without kickstarter, but they viewed kickstarter as a way to get the word out and to get feedback from their customers for the future.

That makes sense to me.

I took advantage of a deal on their site and bought the starter box and some assorted units at KS prices:

https://www.maelstromsedge.com/medge/

They should arrive next week and I'm planning on using them in my new sci-fi project

Did anyone get it during the KS? If so, what's your opinion on the quality of the miniatures?
