Medieval russian terrain and buldings?
« on: 07 April 2016, 12:17:44 AM »
With the upcoming release of fireforge's new russians I have thought about making some russian buildings if possible for them to fight over.  What I am looking for is information about what these might look like and how to build them.  I would guess a lot of wood, but I have no idea how to make some of the onion domes that I see on buildings, so what kind of things should I be going for?  Log cabins?  Logs or planks of wood?

Google image search for russian village huts will give you lots of ideas, in basic form they have not changed much....although some now have glass in the windows!

4Ground do some nice eastern european buildings in mdf that will give you a starter design for scratchbuilds.
As you say plenty of wood (planks, shingles and logs) so stock up on barbecue skewers and balsa wood.

Various shapes/sizes of Onion domes are available from:

I think these are the old Ian Weekley models range.

Pegasus Hobbies has a whole range of Russian Village buildings in 1/72 scale, but they scale nicely with the 28mm miniatures. The only thing that's a dead giveaway is the doorway. If you put a 28mm model next to it, they tower over it. Personally, I don't worry about it since it's scenery.
