Just a question about the plastic. What type of plastic is it? Is it bendy or hard?

Belated answer, but it's the same plastic that the Silent Death plastics are made of.  Maybe not quite as high end as GW or Wyrd plastics, but perfectly serviceable for gaming, not toy-quality cheapo stuff.

 Original set is some sort of hybrid between the M4 and traditional molding just injected plastic.  The new plastic is comparable to GW/Mantic set.

 The above picture is pretty good, I took some of the worst offenders and lined them up. Check out the catapult in the Jager Mac, all sorts of detail has been lost between the two.

 If these models came from the dollar store I wouldn't care, but as a gaming product I feel that there is a minimum quality that they failed to achieve in the previous product.

For the purposes of a dry brush and wash over a basic color, but if you're trying to do anything remotely spectacular the older scouts are useless.

 I am supposed to paint the older set up as two different factions, Wolfs Dragoons and The Checkered Lyrian Commonwealth.  Both paint schemes rely heavily on Inc. washes and panel lines, it's going to be hard with the older sculpts.

Agreed.  I've owned both types and the old version is...seriously crap.  Not to mention it's the plastic which struggles to accept paint (akin to the old school starter box back from the 80's-90's).

The new mech plastic is fine.  The sculpts still leave a bit to be desired, but you get so many figures in the box for the price it's fine.  Battletech is still not on par with the most modern miniatures.  The metals are...pretty questionable in a lot of the mechs.  Battletech is lost in its own expansiveness.

A gigantic miniature range with varying (sometimes poor) quality sculpts/casts/designs etc.  A lot of folks are printing gorgeous 3D prints from the new MWO game.

The truth is they should just update to the newer designs and focus on adopting to the current state of 6mm gaming.

There have been some serious advancements in the last 30 years; imagine what they could do with redesigned and updated clan tech?

With regards to 3D printing-
This is one instance on these forums where the discussion is warranted. The new Jagger and Dragons look radically different-

we cant talk 3d printing from video games without the mods having a splurter from the blurter about it. Pity about that because on Tested with Adam Savage they had a segment on this very thing with printed battlemecha as well....

Well the nice thing is that the MWO guys released the files and said "go nuts"...giving free reign to people to use them for their own purposes.

Actually cleaning game files for printing can be a pain in the ... though. Not always but modelling for games and modelling for printing has a very different set of targets.

Oh, I'm sure.  It was just nice of them to waive all the legal nonsense and let people do it without fear of repercussions.
