French troops during the Chouannerie?
« on: 15 September 2016, 08:59:12 AM »
Hi all,

I am considering starting a Chouanerrie project for Sharp Practice 2. I'm having trouble finding information as all the books I've seen referenced are in French, which I can't read. I've found good examples of French uniforms from 1792 onwards, but I can't seem to make heads or tails of which troops would have fought in the Chouannerie.

My goal with this using SP2 is large skirmish, so 40 - 60 infantry per side, plus maybe some little cavalry and supports. For Chouans I've looked at a variety of militia, civilians and partisans which should fit nicely.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi!

I can only offer hints regarding the Vendée - I know that's not Bretagne, but it might be close enough  :)
There is something in issue 79 of Wargames, Soldiers and Strategy Magazine (http://www.karwansaraypublishers.com/shop/wss-magazine/wss-single-issues/wss-issue-1797.html)

There was also a series of articles on wargaming the Vendée in old issues of Miniature Wargames... Drop me a PM if you are interested in those!

We at Eureka have a large range of Revolutionary French.
I believe most of the infantry would be suitable for the Vendee.

For the french republical troop you could use any french bicorn range even those on the beginning of the Empire.
Most of the republican regiments in Vendée were new and wear the bright new reglementary blue uniform with bicorn.

Just beware when you buy some miniature, have a look if they don't come from Egypt range. Most of manufacurers make french republican from this time expedition with some originals uniform.
