Skirmish AAR - 1879 Russian Invasion of Australia
« on: 17 October 2016, 08:29:07 AM »
Well after a year I have finally got off my butt to write up this AAR pitting Russians against Australians. This is  set during a hypothetical Russian Invasion of Australia in 1879...I know sounds stupid but the Russian Invasion fear sprang up several times during the 19th Century.

This game pits an understrength unit of Siberians with a few Cossacks in support against South Australian's of the Adelaide Rifle Company.

The Colonials were defending a palisade on a crucial roadway...

The melee for the redoubt...read palisade...was pretty hot!

The winner was the Colonials! "Yeah bugger orf you hairy Cossacks!"

The full AAR is here:

Ant the Scenario Information and Set Up details are below:

http://captaindarlingsminiaturesemporium.blogspot.com.au/2016/10/campaign-game-4-set-up-details-special.html

The first three scenarios of this campaign are on my blog as well as the 'historical' background behind the whole invasion...I have scenario 5 ready to roll and with the Russian down 3 to 1 in a best of seven series they had better 'pull their finger out'

Cheers!

Once again, very atmospheric photos. Great AAR, and I like the back story and campaign "special event" (I'm stealing the heart attack idea).

Nice hypothetical game! Like the scenario design you did.

May I ask if your Russians are from Askaris miniatures?

Thanks Guys!

Furt these Russian figures are from Out Post Wargame Services, in general I like their figures much better than the Askari ones! That said the Askari Russian sailors are nice, I review them here:

Von Lucky re the 'heart attack campaign rule' I included that as the Russian General I chose, Lazerev actually died of a heart attack in 1878 so for this hypothetical campaign he was really on borrowed time  :) ...

Cheers!

Of course, Out Post! Have bought their highwaymen range before.

Your review lets me get a good view of these figures - thanks. I want to do a hypothetical scenario myself with Russians and British in the colonial NWF and will consider these.

You couldn't comment or show the Russian figures compared with a Wargames Foundry Pathan by any chance?

Sorry Furt I don't have any Wargames Foundry Pathan figure so can't comment on their compatibility.

I look forward to seeing your NWF games though! What rules are you planning on using?

BRILLIANT! Wonderfully imaginative campaign setting and story-telling. Really like the old sepia-tone 'photo' of Capt. Darling. Must try that out myself sometime.

No probs Captain.

My go to ruleset would be Triumph & Tragedy, but I think I will try Osprey's new TMTWBK for this one.

I really wish us Aussie LAFers could get together and some big colonial faction games together.
