First Foray into Frostgrave
« on: 10 February 2017, 01:18:54 AM »
Heya all,
So been a lurker for a few months now but looking to finally start playing.

My Wargaming Group and I normally play infinity and Frostgrave seems to share some elements of that game that mean we are pretty interested in looking at it as out fantasy equivalent skirmish game.

With that in mind I have been looking at the following build for my wizard to start:

Witch
Brew Potion
Curse
Mud
Spell Eater
Enchant Weapon
Plague of Insects
Heal
Absorb Knowledge

The idea is to focus on buffing and Debuffing the enemy with AK being there to cushion my lack of offense relative to other builds.

The starting Warband Im looking at is

Wizard
Apprentice
Captain (+1 move, +1 Shoot, leather armour, hand weapon, Bow, Dagger, Steady Hand, Sprint)
Archer
Archer
Warhound
Warhound
Thug
Thief
Thief
That leaves me with 10 GC left over at the start if Im reading this right.

So what do you guys think of this? any advice on how to use it?

Personally I'd be tempted to exchange one of the spells for Push and swap out the thug for a third thief.  The main objective is to get off the treasure quickly. Have the wiz grouped with 2 thieves and an archer, use Push to pinball a thief towards a treasure token, with the extra inch the thief gets he can (mostly) get to a treasure chest in turn 1.

Use a similar set up for the appentice. To refine even further consider Transpose so once the thief has picked up the chest cast it on the thief and one of the warhounds (keep them near the board edge).

Mud is a great slow down spell, ideal for casting behind any theives legging it off with a chest and unlike Wall does not break LoS for the archers to pepper the persuer.

Looking good!  I love those wood elf conversions/modifications you did!

Games Workshop plastic figures are eminently convertible, and I see you're doing well on that count. Good use of a standard bearer for a wizard type!

Sadly I've yet to gain enough experience to comment on the warband...

How have you given your Capt +1 Move and +1 Shoot ? - you can only have one of those.

So I see, Id read that wrong, in that case I'd probably take the +1 shoot.

Heres the test scheme. Im pretty happy with it to be honest and will continue it and hopefully paint the rest of my stuff up this week (super easy scheme to paint.
