Recovery Check modifier
« on: 21 December 2011, 05:05:34 PM »
Had an interesting situation last night during a T&T session, and I thought I would post it to get other folks' opinions.

Situation - a squad of Chinese Warlord forces are holed up in a stone house, but has taken quite a lot of damage - deaths and suppressions both.  The player wisely decides to take a Recovery action.  A leader is there in the building, so there is a morale modifier from him, but what about the cover?  Should being in good cover grant a bonus to morale?

From a military history perspective, I have seen plenty of examples of small-unit actions where the unit gets mauled, flees to cover and uses the breather provided by the cover to recover itself.   Would it seem reasonable to give the cover modifier to the morale check for recovery?

Hi,

havent seen this earlier. It was Christmas and I havent bought akll gifts etc  :)

Thanks for posting this idea.

Yes, I agree. Why not use a cover modifier for recovery.

We have an optional rule for small arms vs cover. I think the recover modifier could be handled the same way. As an optional rule. I can imagine not all players agree and I am sure the level of training and the reputation of the leader is also important in a situation like this. But anyhow, its a game - so things shouldnt be too complicated.

I will use your rule.

Thanks

I'd agree, it sounds like an interesting thing to try, but I'd be a bit wary that units (better-quality ones in particular) might become "unshiftable" and bog down the game.

Still, the real-life justification is sound. I would suggest trying it out in a couple of games and see how it plays out.
