One thing I've considered is having a sculptor do the Green Hornet with multiple head types, so that the Hornet could be depicted in either of his 1930s-40s style masks, or in the style of the television show, so that everyone will be happy. Not sure how practical that is.

I can say without a doubt however, that any Hornet I have anything to do with will be the pulp/radio show version first, the 60s version second. The TV show was fine, but it was much too campy compared to the hero I got used to listening to/reading about with my dad's collection as a kid.

As for the Phantom, I respect Bob's decision. However, I would think that the costume would be generic enough to make a Phantom type figure and call it just about anything. Just an opinion, granted.

I like the multiple-head Hornet idea. IIRC Kato looks essentially the same in all media (maybe just masked & unmasked heads for him).

Talking about The Green Hornet, you do know that there's a big-budget Hollywood movie of the Green Hornet due out soon starring Seth Rogen as Britt Reid, right...?

I know, Seth Rogen?! What are they thinking...???

Yeah. Not sure about the Seth Rogen casting, but there have been rumors for some time that the problem with the Green Hornet movie is that the successive producers have wanted to do a campy send-up. Of course, the rumor now is that the new movie will be based on the original pulps, but who knows... If current trends are any indication, backed by the pretty shoddy value of the "Shadow" movie, I won't be holding my breath for this one.

Frankly, I'm not sure how Seth can do it. There's just no drug humor in the concept..;)

Thank you all for the input. I'm very grateful. It looks like the Phantom, or a reasonable facsimile thereof, is a clear winner with the Green Hornet and Kato pulling in a distant second. I'll see what I can do about the Phantom (and eventually, the Hornet).

Will let you know more as I know it.

2 versions of the Phantom? One in costume, the other in Mr Walker trenchcoat (but still masked)?

The trenchcoat version could have sunglasses.

I agree. The Phantom is so nondescript that a heroic male armature would almost work. Just add a mask.

Watchmen characters get my vote as well, if they count.

Hi

I would love to see more classic detectives like Charly  Chan , Mr Moto , Nancy Drew or even Miss Marple :-)

Albert -

Artizan does a very passable Miss Marple in their "Thrilling Tales" collection.

Isn't the Lone Ranger's sidekick Tonto, not Tanto?

I must own that I'm not really familiar with the other characters in the poll. I'm guessing they're American too, that's probably why. There are gaps in what came/comes over here. They only just started showing "The Wire" on the BBC (which I love, by the way) and it was made in 2002!
