Heck, even in the first Dreadball KS Mantic switched materials on stuff, going from rustic to metal for example without letting the pledgers know until it was too late to switch for those who had an issue with it.   Their QC for packing on that one was dreadful as well, between bags of mixed pieces with no levels/contents, missing items (sometimes whole bags sometimes a piece here or there).  They did try to fix missing/broken stuff relatively quickly though.

Skrill's paintjob of the Dungeon Saga Furniture Set from the Reaper forums: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/65599-dungeon-saga-painted-mantic/

$180 gets you 200+ pieces. Still over two weeks to go to see what else you get for your pledge...

Well, surely that just highlights my point about a lot of this scenery being done (recently) in plastic already, so why exactly are Mantic doing it again...?

The cynic in me wonders if it has to do with needing an influx of cash in order to send out the next wave shipments from previous KS projects.  Their 2nd wave of Walking Dead has shipped from China recently...

Are you saying Mantic already released these sculpts? Because, AFAIK, they haven't. These sculpts are *not* the same as their Dungoen Saga Furniture and Door sculpts. The Battlefield Crate particularly has models not in the Dungeon Saga sets.

Look interesting... These will be made in hard plastic, right?

The images look very crisp and sharp... If the actual casts look as good then they will be a pleasure to paint.

I have to admit that I really like the horse and carriage. Similar models would be about $30...

Also, the tapped kegs look good... hmmm...

thanks

They tend to use a softer plastic, sometimes referred to as restic (a resin/plastic mix). Bit more pliable than hard plastic, slightly less detailed, but presumably this could be an advantage for terrain? Do not assume it will be HIPS unless somebody gets a definitive answer elsewhere.

I doubt these will be restic & come to think of it, I haven't see restic from mantic since the 2nd Deadzone KS arrived(Mostly the Bokur). Even then they switched to hard plastic on newer things or went to metal in some circumstances(like the river guard I bought thinking they'd be on a hard plastic sprue)

These will mostly likely be the hard-vinyl-like type stuff from the Dungeon Saga furniture(the shelves, tables, and well and throne) or the really hard "toy"plastic of the doors from the Dungeon Saga set.

The chances of them switching to metal here are astronomically against as it would kill them to produce large items in pewter and give you a pile of them in a $60 box. Shipping would be nuts too.

Yes, they will be boardgame-style plastics. Should make for some very durable terrain pieces.

Nice stuff but pricey.  I still have stuff from twisting catacomb to finish, so will skip this due to the price.

It's pricey in the sense that you might not want THAT much plastic and to pay $60 vs. picking and choosing what you do want.

But they want $60 + shipping for a box of right now around 60-75 plastic items(which seems likely to grow though mostly with duplicates) that works out to about $1 a pop. Sure you probably don't want every single one but in a "pound bag of pick & Mix candy" sense it checks out. It's better than the Pathfinder battles Rusty Dragon Case-Premium tavern set for $55. It's maybe a little worse than the Walking Dead Terrain Booster that gives you 4 hollow hard plastic vehicles and lots of junk-barricades for $30.

This falls apart slightly with some of the items being "two stacked plates" or "chair" vs. others being "a length of fence" but overall it seems like okay value.

i think the convenience/packaging is the real issue for me. I'd prefer they be in smaller groups (kind of like the $20 set add-ons) than in a "Reaper Bones" style pile of random things. I will agree that a big pile/sampler of mixed pre-chosen scenery is not THAT sexy since you may not want a skull, a treasure pile(very much a "make your own with a glue gun and mom'sold sewing kit" type of scenery) and some railroad mine-car tracks when you'd rather have more book shelves, or perhaps a wood stove. It's also a little frustrating when you get two hay bales and you need a bunch of hay bales or none at all. It makes you wish there was a hay bale set instead of just two hay bales in a bucket of everything else. The weakest bits are usually the weapon stands and barricades, however I've found that you usually don't want them to draw the eye much on tabletop since it's very distracting to play a skirmish game when you can't stop ogling the AWESOME groceries in the middle of the board in the market space. You want it to be throw terrain for cover and breaking LOS not the thing that draws your attention most. I like the book piles, and the camp site items. I'm less excited about the guard post/barracks stuff. An archery target? Meh. The hedges look awful. So do the chained-spike trench liners.

I'm getting it because I love painting scenery stuff. I bought some 3d printed tavern chairs & tables  made out of beer/whisky barrels that I found on Amazon which I paid $25 and love so much I'm looking into getting a real pub chair made out of a barrel.

i think it's a decent KS, a solid value as presented, but I can see how it might not make a lot of people pound the F5 key for three weeks. I think the smaller $20 sets fix some of this. I think the $180 for three crates going up to $195 as an early bird thing is crap. I think most people buying terrain that isn't dungeon tiles are going to be a bit reluctant to drop around $200 on desks and book shelves and trapdoor in floor type stuff all at once.

I'm still annoyed that Mantic (like GW) wants US customers to pretend that the GBP is still at $1.65+ instead of $1.30 and is not deducting VAT for non European customers. I'm annoyed that their mini prices have gone up to the point where 3 ugly tiny-foot trolls does NOT feel like a $30 value even if GW would try to start the bidding for that at $50+.

That's muh feelz, yo.

Good points, palaeomerus. I'm still waiting for how much stuff we're getting at $180, since Reaper Bones IV and Dwarven Forge V are coming up in a few months!

Anyway, the plastic used will be the newer plastic they used for Walking Dead. My FLGS had an open copy, and the plastic holds details well. It's not hard plastic sprues, and it's harder than Bones plastic (and retail boardgame plastic).

EDIT: SG's unlocked.

EDIT: If you're into anthros and unusual dungeon dressing, look at Johnny Lauck's KS campaign. He's done a fine job fulfilling his KS.

Latest totals!

While most KS widen the funding gaps between SG's or provide less content, Mantic has been providing *more* pieces and keeping the SG's the same distance apart (so far).

I’m not sure I get it… are all the models included in the pictures in the crates or just the ones with a green check sign? :?
