KPW - Aquinnah Villane, the rescue of Mary Hawkins
« on: 04 May 2017, 05:38:29 PM »
My new KPW game - Aquinnah Village, the rescue of Mary Hawkins - had a run out at Hotlead 2017. A few small points to adjust but overall the players had a good time and a lot of laughs at some of the antics.

I am going to re-make the palisade as I was not 100% happy with this one and try to squeeze the overall footprint of the village down a bit to allow more forest around the edge of the table - the settlers quickly ran out of woods to hide in :-(
Wargamers do it on a table.

Great looking stuff Mindenbrush.

You've really captured the look there and that fort just looks fantastic. Excellent work!

Cheers

Thanks for the kind comments.

the 3 longhouses are from Warlord - excellent service - with 2 having a front 'porch' added. The round house was made from blue insulation foam carved and sanded to shape, covered with Treewrap soaked in PVA and Greenstuff 'branches' added to hold it all together.

Along with the new palisade I will be adding some drying racks and more fields, plus maybe even terrain boards for Historicon'17 if I can find a way to store them.

May I ask what you don't like about your palisade?
Looks great to me.

Palisade was too high, I think I made it about 3.5" high and should have made it around 3". Just 'looks' too tall.

Also I did not get the 'trunks' standing straight and there were gaps at the joints  :o

Plus:
1) I want to reduce the footprint of the village the existing palisade would not work.
2) I also want to add a walkway to the palisade and maybe some lean-to's and drying racks.

I think sometimes we are our own worst critics. I think it looks fantastic. As far as gaps go, I think when they built this it would have been very hard to close all the gaps anyway.

I have to agree with your comments Larry but being a bit of a perfectionist I want to give the gamers that play in my games a great visual and playing experience which sometimes has the knock on effect of helping them improve their games, terrain etc.

Looking at the terrain done by other members such as the League of Augsburg, Mr Bibbley, Malamute and my favourite terrain site Wargaming with Silver Whistle http://wargamingwithsilverwhistle.blogspot.ca/ makes me want to improve my own and often it is the little, simple things that bring everything together.

Cheers,

Graham W
