A general view:
The city defenders try to form and the pirates are ready to storm the walls!

As one of the players I have to say it was an absolute delight to participate in this game. It was great fun, ran very smoothly (His Dinness did shepherd novices like me through the rules, very kindly), and looked like gangbusters.

The wonderful thing about the terrain is that it gave off the proper vibe of a coastal town without getting in the way of the game- there was ample of room to handle figures, measure distances etc. without having to move clutter out of the way. Someone had really thought hard about the layout to achieve that.
Although it did take a fair bit of preparation, like for example updating the local militia's muster rolls :-) :

@ArisK: Reading Aris' subtle talk, everybody understands who played the role of the Town Governor.
Thank you Aris for participating, your presence and gamesmanship was a real joy!

Aris brought only two, couldn't make a hat-trick  lol
And although the game had a great suspense until the end, nobody came to the point to eat his hat  8)

The Pirates take the walls!

A group of pirates with boarding pikes and cutlasses (Clansmen) was the first to climb the walls. They faced a group of City Guards (Shot) who, in the previous round didn't manage to bring a 7+ and lost the right to shoot. Pirates attacking with 3+, Guards defending with 4+ (first shot) and stamina 3 (defending the wall), you guessed well, were thrown out of the wall!
The Captain's Assault Group is ready to follow.
The pirates standing triumphantly on the wall parapet were a conspicuous target, they took a shooting, wavered for a moment, but next round, bolstered by the Captain beat once more the guards, who wavered and continued retreating until they routed.

From the side of the Bastion, the Town Militia rushed in vain, one group of Pikemen and one of Clansmen were already waiting for them...
They were promptly attacked by the latter, wavering, never to recover.
The Pirates are pouring in the Town in numbers!

How did the Pirate landing parties fare?

For distracting the Town Defenders from the seaside, the Pirates send two launches, one with Pirates with boarding pikes and cutlasses (Pikes) and one with Bloodthirsty Looters (Clansmen), bolstered by a Hero.

So, there is an agitation from the opposite side of the town...

The left-hand Pirate landing party

They disembarked unopposed at the North side of the pier...

(I am sorry to say that the launches we had planned to play in the game had stubbornly avoided showing themselves and in spite of our efforts, managed to remain hidden, until the game started. So, we had to substitute them with... rafts  :? )

...and they directed themselves towards the cemetery, where a token was put (a possible loot worthy some honor points), while the Town Guards in the nearest house had not yet managed to form!

...but before them reaching the cemetery gate, the Town Guard managed to muster!
They send them a devastating volley and the fled reeling back to the sea!
...leaving in their haste Anne Bony behind  :)

It's always delightful to see a bunch of merciless cutthroats raiding a beautiful and peaceful coastal village!  :D

I agree 100% with Malamute: hats are crucial for Pirate action!  ;)
