oddly enough they used both the white and blue hatband in German east afrika.is confusing..because normally w/ southwest afrika.
That's interesting, hadn't come across that info before. I know Pre-1896 the hatbands on the field caps were blue in German East Africa, but I didn't know that after the introduction of the new uniforms at that date the new
Südwester hats there had anything but white bands and edging. The official scheme for Schutruppe hats (hatbands and edging) after 1896 was colour-coded by colony: Blue for German Southwest Africa, red for Cameroon and white for German East. The uniform piping was blue for all three.
But wherever they are headed, they look splendid.
