non-Perry Mahdist?
« on: May 08, 2017, 03:52:40 AM »
So! I've got a few boxes of the plastic Perry Bros. Mahdists and am in the process of grabbing all of the metal but I was wondering if anyone could point me to any companies doing similar models (and, preferably, scaled similar to the Perrys.)
Any ideas?

my mahdist army is made ut of various manufactures...about compability except minifigs or ral partha...everything is ok with your Perrys ...by carefully blending bases, as they are irregulars , they will mix well with prcatically all other manufactures except big Redoubt ones....i have Essex Ansars and Fuzzy plus cavalry and camelry..they are basic but piant up nicely...Britannia (Grubby Tans) also make some "heroic type" fuzzy wuzzy ..the kneeling warriors are very nice...last Conoisseur Sudaneses are also very good..including mounted Emirs and personalities...all those manufactures sell single minis which is a good way to fill gaps

Almost all of mine were Old Glory because I needed so many, I then bought nicer figures for the command sets.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

I have hundreds of Castaway Arts foot, cavalry and camelry. They seem to fit with other 28mm manufacturers that I also have including a few Perry.

I would have to agree. Most figures out there will mix well with Perry's, except Ral Partha & Minifigs. They are both old 25mm scale figures. I have quite a few Mahdists myself from a lot of different manufacturers.

I mostly use Old Glory, Castaway Arts, and Perry's with (1) Brittania Beja unit and (1) Bicorne Beja unit. I have a bunch more of all 3 yet to paint up as well. These all go very well together in the table, though I use them in separate units. I also have a gun crew from Cannon Fodder that fit in perfectly, they are captured Egyptians in chains. It's actually a very cool set.
Cheers,
JB

Like The Gray Ghost I bought Old Glory Mahdist for troops and Perry for command.  Old Glory are great for massed troops and paint up quickly.  You just have to overlook the odd pose every now and then.  Sometimes this works in your favor.  I had a Beja figure running with a sword that was too short, a miss cast, and the head was turned towards it with a look of disbelief.  So I have a horde of running, screaming Beja and one guy who brought his dinner knife instead of his long sword!  The Perry Beja command mix in without any issue.
