Ah, but Matt, I was in the crowd at Twickenham for the semi-final of the Rugby World Cup in 1999, when France turned around a lost cause with an inspired performance to send the All Blacks out of the competition with their tails between their legs.

I never thought to hear 70,000 Englishmen (including me) roaring 'allez les bleus' and 'vive la France' at the tops of their voices, but I heard it that day. One of the more extraordinary but inspiring things I've ever seen.  :)

Great stuff as usual mate, could I add my name to the list for your rule variants too, as I've been looking at various sets.

Excuse my ignorance, but what are BaB rules? I get confused with acronyms once in a while, having absorbed far too many.

These are a set of ACW skirmish rules called Brother Against Brother with varients for the F&IW, AWI amoungst others.
There's a good review here: http://www.deepfriedhappymice.com/html/rd_brother_against_brother.html

Easy to pick up and play. They're not everyones cup of tea, but I like and use them for my ACW games. I have found them particularly good to introduce younger gamers at our club to historicals.

They are a lot of fun and give a good quick game. We've used them for Napoleonic Peninsular War in the past and they worked very well.

Hi just to say the terrain and painting are superb and on the subject of simple but fun rules I have used these when I've not wanted to use my usual rules (this very ground)

http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/skarlet/mohicans/mohicans.html

based on the day lewis film but a good game especially using the conquest LOM figures.  :D

Gluteus Maximus, have you ever tried or heard of 'Chosen Men'?
They seem very similar in style to BAB: http://uk.geocities.com/oculus1999/
There are some scenarios available for these rules but I'm sure they could asily be adapted to BAB: http://uk.geocities.com/oculus1999/cm.html#rules

Barry,
no I haven't. I have to admit I haven't played BAB for a couple of years, but those rules do look interesting. Short and Simple is always good. I'm a real rules junky and can't resist grabbing a set and reading it, even though I may never play it, so thanks for the info.

That's a website I'd never heard of either, with lots more interesting stuff, so thanks for the link too :D

OH...MY...GOD!!!

What have we done starting F&IW ... this is fantastic!
"Ho, ho, ho! Well, if it isn't fat stinking billy goat Billy Boy in poison! How art thou, thou globby bottle of cheap, stinking chip oil? Come and get one in the yarbles, if ya have any yarbles, you eunuch jelly thou!"

H.M. Stanley,
Thanks for a great reminder about Captain Blood's wonderful F&I War figures and setup.
I think that his setup is what we all would like to have and play on.
Makes me want to get out my guys (not close to being as well painted and some about 20 plus years old)
to have a go.
