Danger UXB
« on: May 31, 2017, 05:52:43 AM »
Morning Chaps, with the release of some of the Warlord bits and pieces for Operation Sealion I've finally decided to mine the lead mountain a bits (and invest lots more of course!!) into a project I've been promising myself for many a long year. Anyway, with reference to the title of this and if the more venerable among us can remember the TV series I want to do a squad of Sappers as a UXB team. Any suggestions for suitable figures in 28mm, it was the Warlord Flying Tilly that got me started, Paint the wings Red and you're off! :) Many thanks in advance, JB

I'll have you know that's Anthony Andrews at his most expressive.  ;)Twas always a keenly fought battle between Andrews, Jeremy Irons and the late Roger Moore for Britain's most wooden actor. I often thought Moore had been afflicted by a rare case of Bell's Palsy that had struck both sides of his face.

Given that it's unlikely thst you'll need much in the way of opposition, save for the bomb itself, you might as well use the Tamiya 1/48 British infantry in addition to their Tilly. It even comes with a civvie figure. Multipose figures, easy to cut n shut. I suspect Airfix and Eduard have some useful groundcrew figures that you could raid for sidecaps and chaps in boiler suits.

Many thanks Gentlemen, no I don't yet have the vehicle either. The whole project is still very early days. As I said, an all too little mining of the lead mountain and a depressingly long list. . . The Tamiya is the model I pictured Carlos but how would it scale to 28mm. Dixon released one a few years ago but I couldn't find it on their site. Any other suggestions? Thanks a lot JB

I haven't got a Tilly made up but this is the 1/48 Tamiya Citroen next to some 28mm figures (Pulp Figures & Artizan IIRC).

If you have a look at Captain Blood's desert thread you can see the Tamiya Tilly painted up. I have a number of Tamiya 1/48 and I think they work well with most 28mm ranges. If you want another vehicle then there's an Airfix Bedford MWD in the same scale. If it was me, I'd go with some of the Airfix groundcrew for the bomb disposal squad.

Good advice acted upon Carlos, I've ordered the Bedford and ground crew!! It'll make a nice addition on the table. Thanks a lot for everyone else's input too.
Looking forward to getting started so I'll keep you all posted. JB

My pleasure. You got me watching all the old episodes of Danger UXB again on Youtube, so in reality, I should be thanking you. Christ, it's almost forty bloody years since I saw that last.

I suppose it must be that long tho I do recall buying Father a box set of DVD of the whole series a few years ago. I shall have to dig it out and alternate it with episodes of Dad's Army! :D That's my viewing sorted for a week or two.
