Agis Primaris Marines - Raven Guard
« on: 17 June 2017, 08:41:48 AM »
Finally, the new 40K has arrived! 8th edition looks very promising, hopefully next week I have my 1st game.
I have not really played 40K since 5th edition (really did not like the direction the rules were taking).

I was also very curious about the new Marines. So without any further blah blah, here is my 1st Primaris Marine after some serious speed painting.

Primaris Intercessor Brother Marine of the the 2nd company, 7th squad.

Right out of the box, only the head is an old Mk VI “Beaky” helmet. There was a lot of talk about head swaps, so I wanted to try it.
The Primaris are great minis, but are rather static, they are not as pose able as the older plastic Space Marine kits. Even the shoulder pads are fixed!

And the always asked for comparison picture:

Tanith Guardsman, Primaris Marine, Grey Knight and Eldar Ulthwe Guardian.

and as always more on my site: http://www.adpublishing.de/html/space_marines.html

Lovely paint for a quick job  :o

The Primaris marines look so much better than the normal marines... It's almost like GW suddenly realised how to make space marines... I am really looking forward to mine arriving :)

So true, I am really happy with the minis so far!
The rules seems also after years of suffering finally be in good shape.
The core rules fit on 8(!!!) pages.
:)

I think that the way the rules have been written will really speed up and simplify the game... which I am sure will be appreciated by the vast majority of players.

Just a quick question, did you paint the weapon/back pack before or after you glued them to the miniature?

All glued together prior to painting.

So they are 40mm?
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

Feet to eye around 38mm.
Overall including gear 40mm, including base 44mm.

I love it!  ;) The scale looked IMO finally right in comparison to Guard humans!
Just remember the bulked up Arnold Catachan fighter, their arms were naked as big as an armoured SM!

Uffdada! He's big. Pretty big. Not really sure whether I like that. Are the new marines even bigger than terminators?

But apart from that, it's a lovely paintjob and you gave him  a beakie head (where is that from?) - so what's not to like.

Damn and blast I'm going to have to buy some now.

Great job. They do look 'right' being so big. They should just phase out all the old models. Marines are meant to be 7ft tall supermen after all.

I've ordered the rulebook but now I'm toying with buying the starter box!

Nice work, the head swap looks great.  I'm still amused that GW refuses to admit that the Primaris are nothing more than (finally) properly-scaled marines that match their fluff sizes, and has instead come up with some very, very silly backstory fiction for their sudden appearance.  I mean yeah, they couldn't just outright declare all the old models were undersized and outdated without triggering a mass exodus that would have made Age of Sigmar look successful, but I'll bet we see a lot of new Primaris sculpts in the near future and fewer and fewer "tiny" standard marine figs coming out during 8th as they wean people off the shrimps.

The larger size does give them a clean look. I don't do 40k or have any interest in the GW fluff but even I knew the Marines were supposed to be bigger than normal humans.  The older smaller Marines will not be totally obselete though, they can have another lease of life next to GZG sized 25mm SF miniatures. Not for "official" games in GW stores though I guess

Absolutely, finally they look right. I am also very curious I they let the small Marines fade out over the years!

To be honest I like the backstory so far.
OK it is a bit strange to think that somewhere in the last 10.000 years somewhere in hidden Mechanicus vaults some super duper Primaris Marines were dormant while the imperium was besieged from every side.

For me the reappearance of Guilliman and the Eldar twist made it all cool again.
