Home page for the Bandai Gundam game is:

http://global.bandai-hobby.net/en-us/site/gundam-assemble/

First releases scheduled to "pre-launch" in July this year. Game looks to be playable with the lovely looking minis (50mm high) or without as a card game.  With models option is pretty pricey though.

The release is a bit confusing, but there are 2 entirely separate games getting released at once. One is a trading card game (magic, pokemon etc esque) and the other the hex grid miniatures game. The pre-release sets include both a starting "wargand" and a thematically matching card deck. There are also other decks that come with special edition miniatures, but the only integration of the card game and the miniatures mentioned is that "you can put the mini on the card when playing the card game for extra table presence"  EDIT: The box includes 3 miniatures but NOTHING else you will need to play the miniature game. no stats, rules or map which also won't be available until next year, and likely will require you to buy the same minis again to get their cards and tokens.

Looking at pre-orders its been very confusing even knowing what you are ordering at many web stores, just the decks, or the minis+decks? Depending on where you order you'll pay about 40 euro for a 3 mini set and full starter deck... I have to admit I am tempted to spend 80 euro to buy in to both games in a way i can at least play a few games of it.

We have some supposed info on the miniatures game from playtesters, and the comparison to warhammer underworlds is apt I believe. I've heard that basic games are 3v3 models specifically. Each model comes with a card for each of its weapons, and you plan what weapon/ability each model will use that round blind upfront. Each card has a initiative rating, the more powerful it is, the slower it is. You then reveal and resolve in order. At first glance I can see this creating some cool high pace skirmishes which fits Gundam, but with no scenery and pretty boring 2d maps (at least what was shown so far) it isnt enough miniature for my taste.

Yeah, seems like it's much more going in the "collectible miniature game" thing GW has been doing with the newer small games (and which I'm sure are mighty profitable). But hey, at least the figures aren't pre-painted. :)

After a bunch of mighty stressful weeks I allowed myself to do some stuff on my own toys this weekend. Here's the WIP (Kai's) Guncannon:

Still very much WIP, very slow process as all sorts of things have to be left to dry properly. Sure, it could be done faster with a different approach, but I generally prefer nice over fast, and I just enjoy using certain stuffs on these models over what I'd usually do.

Whilst things were drying on the Guncannon I primed and basecoated the Zaku II (green dude in the back; the HGUC The Origin one, Char's commander version, but I built it as a regular Zaku II, because so far I don't have any, and I'd like to collect the classics. I think he's got a slightly wrong backpack because the non-commander variant's got a less powerful one, but hey ho.). I MAY have been a bit too swift on that one, and the primer doesn't seem to stick quite as well as it should. I'm sure now that it dried a bit more it should be better. I also fixed some bits and gave the chap a good varnishing, so I'm hoping that this should fix that. The thing's meant to be moved around, reposed and so on, preferrably by others than me as well on a gaming table.

I also ordered some extra bits, which I may use on this Zaku or a later one, depending on how easy these bits are to apply and/or if they fit at all.

@Ultravanillasmurf: Thanks very much!

@Easy E: Cheers! I gave him two layers of varnish, then left him to dry for 2 days, put him together the other night. He's my 'object in researching if a lazy primejob can be made up for by means of LOTS of varnish'. So far things don't look very promising. :S Wish I'd made a cheaper and maybe less detailled kit that object. But oh well. I have this really weird ambition to have those models look good and be made for gaming. Which isn't a weird ambition at all, because that's what I always go for in miniatures of course, but in the case of these kits, I also want them for people to be able to pose them and all. For which technically 'ard-as-pee primer would be a prerequisite. On the positive side: The Guncannon's gonna be fine. :P And I made a list of more robot toys I wanna get. Also got kinda into the idea of the Berge-Guntank.

@hubbabubba: Cheers!

Heyhey, happy Wednesday. Here's a bunch of boardgame figures from the Massive Darkness boardgame:

full size image: https://www.tabletopwelt.de/uploads/monthly_2025_04/massivedarknessS.JPG.4d5b542aa32191b58916b84eaecacbf8.JPG

A handful of evil monsters as well as the investigators (player characters). All 28mm sized. Monsters are a bit more all over the place scale-wise, but that's OK.

I actually painted the rest of that game last year. Huge amount of gribbly monsters, ranging from small to rather huge (and dis-GU-stin'). Very much against type I never took pictures of them back last year though. It was a very time-critical project. :D Just imagine a whole lot of tentacles and boils and milky, mad eyes. Ancient horrors from beyond the stars with names the pronounciation of which would drive a man instantly insane. That sorta stuff.

Apart from that, I put together some 10mm MDF building blocks by TTCombat and now I'm painting lots of 40k figures, which is always lovely.

Ancient horrors from beyond the stars do tend to make for wonderfully evil antagonists.  Nice painting.
Painted:  2025:539; 2024: 410; 2023: 37; 2022: 56

Yeah, at least one doesn't have to put much thought into them. :D

Right, since we last spoke I got my hand caught up in a shattered glass door ("real glass, go cry me a river!". Loads of blood, stitches, no nerve damage though apparently, so I was lucky.), which hampered my painting for a few days. Now I'm back at the desk and made some photos to catch us all up on what happened the past weeks.

Where can you find pleasure, search the world for treasure
Learn science, technology?
Where can you begin to make your dreams all come true
On the land or on the sea?

Where can you learn to fly, play in sports or skindive
Study oceanography?

Right you are indeed, in the Navy.

Sadly the white background ate the reflections on the metallics; they look so lovely in real life. I'll make some more photos before I sent them back home.

Anyway, these are amazingly lovely figures. Perfect imperial armed forces figures in my book, for several reasons, and spiritually the closest thing we ever got to the nominal and legendary depiction of imperial guardsmen in Codex Imperialis.

Staying with the imperial armed forces, well, a different branch altogether really but they are also imperial, also armed, also bring force to the table - Imperial Harbinger Space Marines.

These are an addition to the lovely Imperial Harbingers army I got to do in 2023. A very underrepresented chapter, and a tricky colour scheme, but I really enjoy how pragmatic and no-nonsense they look, and I kinda underline that with the colours used. These here in the photo are still WIP, once the last bits of colour are added they'll look perfectly rounded (hopefully).

Last but not least, there's yet another completely different branch of imperial hard power - employees of the Officio Assassinorum!

Even though I'm pretty sure that Death Cult Assassins aren't part of that club at all, but rather one of these less-than-official pals to the Adeptus Ministorum. Anyway, they're also still WIP, but getting there.

Hope you like them and a happy 1st May in advance!

Ah! I had missed the previous update here as well. Always a treat to see your new work!

Pity about the background/reflections. Finding the right backdrop for minis is something I struggle with all the time, with a lot worse result then you.  lol

Excellent looking defenders of the Imperium.  Glad to hear the injury won't be long term.  Hope you have a quick recovery.

@YPU:Thanks very much! Yeah, I assume that in a shot with terrain around and differnt lighting the shine should show better. Because it is rather lovely, I Have to say. :D

@syrinx0: Cheers! I hope so too. Things look well, stitches are taken out on Tuesday.

@hubbabubba: Well, clearly you've been frequenting the wrong bars then! :P On a more serious note - yeah, me neither. It's lovely though. I like big units, I like armies. Skirmish games can do a lot, but they can't do that.
